NOTICE OF PUBLIC DISCUSSION FOR POSSIBLE CARSON CITY CDBG APPLICATIONS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Carson City will conduct a public meeting on September 9, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. (All meetings will be online, please see directions below), in order to discuss possible applications for funding under the next fiscal year’s (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022) State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and to solicit citizen input on possible activities to be included in the application.

Camp Carson is a decades long summer tradition for school-aged children in the capital city. Every year children can be seen at Mills Park, the Carson City Community Center, the Carson City Aquatic Center, or around town attending various field trips, identifiable by their matching, brightly colored t-shirts.

Unprecedented. Many of Western Nevada College’s graduates are the first in their families to graduate from college. Their novel feats will be matched with an unparalleled commencement ceremony for WNC.

Plenty of activities around Carson City are returning for all to enjoy throughout the summer. From hiking and biking trails and campgrounds, to several outdoor recreational activities, there are many ways to get outside and enjoy the warm weather.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting is scheduled to take place June 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William St.

Summer is in full swing, and recreational activities around Carson City are starting to return in the near future.

From the Carson City Library’s 2020 Learning Challenge, to archery classes at the Clear Creek Bowman Archery Camp, there are several ways for youth to get outside and enjoy the Silver State.

Recreational facilities and services in Carson City are beginning to reopen under new provisions by Governor Sisolak’s Phase 2 directives.

The Multipurpose Athletic Center has reopened and the Carson City Aquatic Facility and Carson City Community Center are gearing towards reopening on Monday, June 8.

Artist and poet, Jaeda DeWalt wrote, “When we learn how to become resilient, we learn how to embrace the beautifully broad spectrum of the human experience.” If there is one word to describe Pioneer High School’s class of 2020, it would be “resilient.”

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department announced it is planning on reopening certain recreational facilities under Phase 2, with tentative dates announced for the beginning of June. These dates are all tentative, and may change as additional information becomes available.

Partnership Carson City’s online yoga Monday has been moved to 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. The free Wellness Yoga series going virtual is part of an effort to continue to provide a needed respite with the ongoing limitations as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space announced March 18 its update on office and staffing changes, facility closures and program cancelations and postponements due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors meet Thursday morning, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room, 851 East William Street. The meeting will be streamed live on the Carson City Government Facebook page here and at carson.org/meetings.

UPDATE: Carson City Health and Human Services clarified one item in the resolution regarding the number of cases. Carson City health officials have identified 1 positive case and the potential exposure of 14 ship passengers who have been repatriated who are being tracked.

Carson City officials are continuously monitoring the level of risk of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus) to the community. In close coordination with Carson City Health and Human Services, the City Manager’s Office along with City departments in an abundance of caution are coordinating the closure of some offices to take additional measures to slow the spread of respiratory viruses. As closures are announced please visit carson.org/covid19 for information and updates about government services.

“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

Art in Motion presents it's Performance Groups taking the spotlight in Carson City this year for their annual Spotlight Dance Competition. This is a free public event. The thaw continues around the capital city as we head into Tuesday with highs expected in the mid-50s. Events lined up feature morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, Carson City TRIAD will give a presentation at the senior center on scams targeting older adults. Also on tap, the Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents a Jimmy Stewart favorite "You Can't Take it With You" at the BAC; if you love music, there's Big-Band Jazz X2 at the Carson City Community Center, and you can join Carson Now as it celebrates its 10th anniversary at Living the Good Life.

Just like all of the other seniors here at the school, I am working on my Senior Project, a graduation requirement, in order to benefit not only myself but also those animals in the community who need a home.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band and Carson Middle School’s Royal Blue Jazz Band present the 17th annual combined Jazz Extravaganza concert, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, at 7 p.m., in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street, Carson City.

Heading into the backend of the work week, events lined up Thursday include day 1 of the 7th annual International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center, a cardio and strength connection class offered through Carson Tahoe Health and Wellness, a free information session on the legal and financial aspects of long-term care hosted by Carson Tahoe Care Center, the Carson City GOP will host a meeting to discuss precinct organization, plus trivia night at Bella Vita Bistro, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and a lecture on women’s suffrage movement history in Nevada. All are invited to attend three days and nights of free film showings at the 7th annual Carson City International Film Festival, which runs Thursday through Saturday.

The Carson City Department of Arts & Culture, in partnership with the Carson City Clerk-Recorder’s Office, proudly announced its first ‘I Voted’ sticker design competition.

Time flies as the sun shines going into the last Monday in February. Expect daytime highs around 60. Activities include are a political luncheon with Clint Koble, a primary candidate for the 2nd Congressional District, plus yoga, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

The Capital City Community Band will present its annual “Salute To Young Musicians” concert on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at 3 p.m. in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson Community Center.

The Carson City School District will host two showings of a 60-minute documentary titled "Screenagers Next Chapter — Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience" Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center. The two showings, beginning at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., will be free and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children.
