A 28-year-law enforcement veteran and a sheriff’s sergeant in Carson City has entered into the 2018 Storey County Sheriff’s Office race.

Sgt. Mike Cullen, who has spent the past 24 years with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and has served as a sergeant since 2003, also spent 4 years as a correctional officer at Nevada State Prison and was a reserve deputy with CCSO from 92-94.

Carson City Meals on Wheels announced Thursday that it will be participating in the 16th annual March for Meals — a month-long, community-by-community celebration of Meals on Wheels and the vulnerable seniors who rely on the vital service to remain independent at home.

CARSON CITY — District Attorney Jason Woodbury filed for re-election Tuesday at the Carson City Courthouse. Woodbury won the office in 2014, and is serving the final year of his first term.

The staff of the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City is organizing a campaign to update the 43 year old campus and 150 year old buildings.

A first-year robotics team made up of youth from Carson City and Reno has been crowned state champions following its victory at FIRST Robotics Tech Challenge Nevada State Championships held in Reno.

CARSON CITY - District Attorney Jason Woodbury announced Tuesday he will run for re-election this year. Woodbury is finishing his first term after winning office in 2014. “I am profoundly grateful Carson City voters hired me to do this job,” Woodbury said. “We’ve assembled a solid team that serves this community well.”

Lyon County Sheriff Al McNeil announced his bid for re-election today. McNeil has served as the 20th Lyon County Sheriff since 2015.

UPDATE: After voting in December to come up with a plan, the Nevada Department of Agriculture released a request for proposals Tuesday to identify a new owner of the Virginia Range estray horses.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Division of Tourism, also known as Travel Nevada, has released its 2018 Visitor’s Guide, available at visitors centers, airports, and hotels throughout the state. The free, 124-page guide also will be available for order or download from TravelNevada.com/travel-guides later this month.

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Last month, award winning advertising agency SJ Marketing turned its annual client-gift project into a community support campaign, raising more than $1,250 for area non-profits. Proceeds from the campaign, “You’ve Been Givted,” went to four local charities: Awaken Reno, a human trafficking awareness organization; PetNetwork, a Tahoe-based animal shelter; Families for Early Autism Treatment (FEAT), a local grassroots effort; and the Reno-Tahoe area Meals on Wheels organization.

In an effort to showcase the value of coming to school and being on time, Carson Middle School administrators, social workers and safe school professionals have taken a positive approach to motivate students. On Monday, Jan. 8, the first day back from the holidays, students were welcomed by school officials dressed in dinosaur suits holding giant banners and delivering cheers and “High Fives.”

A crowd of more than 100 people gathered Saturday evening along North Carson Street in front of the Nevada State Capitol, holding a candlelight vigil for an estimated 3,000 Virginia Range wild horses currently under state of Nevada jurisdiction.

Local citizens will gather Saturday afternoon for a candlelight vigil calling on Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to reverse the Nevada Department of Agriculture’s cancellation of the humane management cooperative agreements and current plan to sell the estimated 3,000 Virginia Range wild horses who fall under the state of Nevada’s jurisdiction to a private entity, according to a press release from local wild horse advocacy groups.

Wild horse advocates upset by Nevada Board of Agriculture decisions late last year that ended an agreement with the American Wild Horse Campaign and then agreeing to transfer ownership of all Virginia Range horses to a yet-to-be-named nonprofit animal organization say they plan to demonstrate Wednesday and hold a candlelight event Saturday at the capitol building in Carson City.

Philip J. DuBois “Phil,” owner of DuBois Health Center since 1964, passed away on December 31, 2017. Phil was born November 6, 1932 to Roland and Lulu DuBois in Haverhill, Massachusetts. The 14th annual Holiday With a Hero campaign culminated Wednesday in Carson City at Walmart after months of fundraising. At least 240 homeless children from across the Carson City School District met with Santa Claus before being paired with first responder heroes for a Christmas shopping spree.

The Carson City Senior Center in coordination with Subaru held a 'Stuff the Subaru' canned food drive Saturday at Save-Mart Carson City as part of Subaru's 'Share the Love' campaign.
