Nevada Department of Public Safety announces Dan Solow as new NHP Lieutenant Colonel
CARSON CITY — Dan Solow has been named Lt. Colonel of the Nevada Highway Patrol, the State's Department of Public Safety Director James Wright announced Friday.
Solow will replace John O’Rourke, who was recently promoted to NHP Colonel. Solow is currently the Deputy Chief of the NHP Southern Command and will officially assume the title of Lieutenant Colonel on Monday, Dec. 18, 2017.
Solow has served for over 20 years with the DPS, joining the Highway Patrol Division in 1995. He has promoted through the years, from Sergeant in 2004 for the Primm District to Lieutenant in 2011, Captain in 2016, then to the position of Deputy Chief for the Southern Command in 2017.
Solow is one of the original Troopers assigned to start-up the Crash Investigation Detail in 1998, now known as MIRT (Multi-disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team), which was the first formal full-time investigation detail for serious traffic crashes in the Highway Patrol’s jurisdiction.
During the 2012 Presidential Election Campaign, Solow was the lead Highway Patrol liaison, managing over 15 high profile dignitary visits to the Las Vegas Valley.
“Lieutenant Colonel Solow brings great experience, dedication and commitment to the position and to the Highway Patrol Division," remarked DPS Director Wright.
Solow is an advocate for traffic safety, employee wellness, and community engagement, and was the first DPS employee to sign on as a mentor for the Nevada Promise Scholarship Program.
“Being selected as the Lieutenant Colonel is a great honor," said Solow. "I am excited for the opportunity to continue to move the Highway Patrol into the future while providing the best possible service to our communities.
