Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 08/10/2014 - 11:05amHere is the Carson City area road report for Aug. 11-17. The inside lanes of N. Carson Street between Musser Street and Spear Street will be closed in both directions Monday through Wednesday evenings from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for street work.
The Nevada Department of Transportation will be continuing road work on US 50 from Arrowhead Drive in Carson City to Baldwine Lane in Mound House. There will be single lane closures on weeknights from 1 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. in the westbound direction and from 7 p.m. to 11 a.m. in the eastbound direction.
Fernley man dies in motorcycle crash after attempting to elude Churchill County deputy
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 08/04/2014 - 10:10amA 23-year-old Fernley man died in a motorcycle crash Friday night in Fallon after attempting to elude deputies during a chase, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.
Gregory L. Vasquez died at Banner Churchill Community Hospital where he was taken following the crash. The incident was reported at around 9 p.m. According to NHP, a deputy with the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office had seen the Vasquez, operating a black 2004 Honda motorcycle, commit a traffic violation on Harrigan Road. The deputy attempted to make an enforcement stop.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will be continuing road work on Highway 50 from Deer Run Road in Carson City to just east of Highway 341 in Mound House. There will be single lane closures on weeknights from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

The Nevada sesquicentennial Fair will be held at Fuji Park July 30 through August 3. Additional traffic may be expected in the area. Off-site parking will be at the Casino Fandango with free bus rides to and from the fair.

This section will be open to local traffic only, and through traffic will be detoured onto Prospect Drive.
There will be utility work primarily in the street shoulder on weekdays at the following locations. Minimal delays are possible.
— Gulch Road between Wagon Wheel Road and Combs Canyon Road.
— Lakeview Road west of Combs Canyon Road.

Bakersfield man remains in serious condition after bicycle crash involving semi in the Cave Rock tunnel
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/11/2014 - 10:27amA 48-year-old Bakersfield, Calif., man remains in serious condition after the bicycle he was riding Thursday was struck in the tunnel at Cave Rock on Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said.
Clarence M. Aldridge was flown by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for his injuries where he remains in serious condition. NHP responded at 9:50 a.m. to the accident, which closed a portion of the highway for several hours, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
Dogs of War Poker Run Saturday to benefit veterans

All proceeds from this event will go to support Veterans in need from our community, a portion going to a WW2 Veteran who was victimized during a home invasion on Memorial Day.

Carson City man jailed for allegedly forging prescription from doctor
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 07/04/2014 - 11:33amA 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday, 4:32 p.m. in the 500 block of East William Street on felony suspicion of forgery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.
Robert Wayne Smith was jailed on $5,000 bail. Officers spoke with the pharmacist who received a call from a local doctor who asked the pharmacist not to fill any new prescriptions for the man as they were all forged, the arrest report states.
July 4 holiday weekend activities lined up for Carson City and surrounding areas

TRPA wraps up 'Car-free' Tahoe Bike Challenge

This is the fourth year that the agency has made an environmental improvement by essentially closing its parking lot to motorized staff vehicles for one car-free day today.

Carson City Sheriff's Office hosts 11th motorcycle competition

Along with the Motors Competition was the Legends of the West Bike and Car Fest. The duo of the events brought mass crowds of locals and even drew competitors from clear across the country.

Vista Grande Boulevard will continue to be closed from Topsy Lane to Old Clear Creek Road with a signed detour. There will also be intermittent delays on Old Clear Creek Road near the intersection with Vista Grande Boulevard.
There will be a lane shift on Northridge Drive and the sidewalk will be closed on the north side of the street near the intersection with Roop Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

Our sparse Sierra Nevada snowpack from last winter is gone, the spring run-off was almost non-existent, and that is bad news for fishing this summer in our streams, creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes and reservoirs.
Carson City Library to host Spokes America 2014

Spokes America is a bike trip across the United States designed to make STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) accessible to students everywhere. The Spokes team will be at the Carson City Library with plans to run a “Learning Festival” during their June 16 visit.

There will be lane closures due to pavement maintenance on Highway 395, Carson Street from Fairview Drive to Highway 50 West (Spooner Junction) during the night hours of 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. beginning Sunday night, June 8, through Friday morning, June 13.
The Legends of the West event will begin Friday, June 13, and continue through Saturday, June 14. Road closures will occur from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The following roads will be closed and detours will be signed:
Former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira dies at 79

A reception will follow at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive in Carson City.

Carson City motorcycle rider identified in Tuesday freeway crash
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/28/2014 - 11:47amA Carson City man has been identified in the Tuesday night motorcycle crash on the Carson City freeway, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Kevin M. Purvis, 33, of Carson City died as a result from injuries in the crash that happened in the southbound lane of the 580 freeway, north of Fifth Street, said NHP Trooper Dave Gibson.
