UNR students, faculty and staff stand up for sexual assault awareness
Submitted by editor on Thu, 04/02/2015 - 10:51amSince the February release of results from a student survey regarding sexual conduct and safety, a number of efforts to strengthen a supportive campus climate, one with zero tolerance for sexual assault, sexual misconduct and other life-damaging actions, have been put in place at the University of Nevada, Reno.
In March, the University launched a 24-hour Sexual Assault/Sexual Misconduct Hotline, allowing students, faculty and staff to report incidents that occur on or off campus. The caller may remain anonymous if he/she chooses. The hotline phone number is 775-784-1030.
Carson City weekend arrest log: Man jailed on sexual assault, lewdness with a child charges
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/30/2015 - 11:30amA 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday 5:52 p.m. at Carson Tahoe Hospital on felony warrant charges alleging sexual assault on a minor and lewdness with a child under the age of 14, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
Arrested was Daniel James Sperske, a resident in the 1400 block of North Edmonds Drive. He was at the hospital being treated for an injury. Officers knew he had the warrants issued March 24 out of Carson City Justice Court and made the arrest there. Bail: $150,000.

Carson City man jailed on multiple sexual assault charges

Drake Martin, 20, was arrested Wednesday on a priority 5 parole and probation violation, with the charges filed Friday by the Carson City District Attorney’s Office, said Detective Sal Acosta. If convicted he faces a maximum of life in prison.

Jose Segovia was arrested at 1:52 a.m. in the 1000 block of North Saliman Road. He also faces charges of gross misdemeanor domestic battery, violation of a protective order, petit larceny and violation of alternative sentencing. He has been arrested four times in a year on domestic battery charges with one conviction.

Arrested was Adrian Garcia Montez, 21, of Carson City. Bail has been set at $25,000. According to the booking report, deputies were dispatched to a call of an occupied stolen vehicle that was being followed by the victim.

Facing criminal charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon is Dominick Burt, 34. He was booked on a parole and probation violation in Churchill County and faces the robbery and assault charges for the alleged crimes on Saturday night at a North Edmonds Street apartment, said Carson City Sheriff’s Lt. He is being held on $30,000 bail on a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The incident happened at the Whiskey Tavern in the 3400 block of Highway 50 East shortly after midnight.
The male victim was flown by Care Flight to Renown Medical Center in Reno where he was treated and released, a Carson City sheriff's detective said.

UPDATE: A suspect in the early morning stabbing at a bar on Highway 50 East was taken into custody at 12:51 a.m. He was located at a Moundhouse brothel. As of 2 a.m. the victim, who was flown to Renown Medical Center in Reno via Careflight, was said to have non-life threatening injuries, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Lt. Brian Humphrey.

A man was stabbed early Friday morning at Whiskey Tavern in the 3400 block of Highway 50 East. The incident happened shortly after midnight and the suspect is at large, according to Carson City sheriff's deputies on scene.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 01/01/2015 - 10:24amA 31-year-old man was arrested Thursday, 12:58 a.m. in the 2600 block of Highway 50 East on suspicion of DUI, driving in the middle lane for 200 feet and violation of bail conditions, all misdemeanors, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, officers stopped the Dayton man after observing him enter the middle driving lane past Airport Road where he traveled approximately 500 feet in the center before stopping at the red light at Highway 50 and Lompa Lane.

Cheryl Smith, 74, of Minden was booked into Douglas County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, assault with a deadly weapon and felony destruction of property. Bail was posted Friday morning at $31,509.

Christoper Matthew Couch is being held on $35,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the 3800 block of South Carson Street regarding two people arguing. Dispatch advised they were getting several 911 calls and one of the reporting witnesses said one of the men hit the other.
