Nevada Public Safety's Capitol Police Chief to Join Carson City Sheriff's Office Executive Team
Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong is pleased to announce that Mr. Jerome Tushbant has been selected to join the Sheriff’s Executive Administrative team this year. Mr. Tushbant is currently with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Chief of Police, Capitol Police Division, here in Carson City.
He has worked closely with the Sheriff’s Office on a number of operations where the two agencies have had common interests, and is similarly comfortable and experienced in circumstances where multiple agencies in the Carson City region have joined forces in response to the needs for public safety, health and welfare.
Jerome is welcomed by in-coming Undersheriff Ken Sandage and Chief Administrative Officer Sharon Daniels, who participated directly in the selection process. Both Sandage and Daniels noted that Mr. Tushbant will challenge the “status quo” of an already top performing agency, noting education, training, and experience as the benchmark indicators of his future success.
The search for just the right candidates to fill the statutorily positions authorized to the Sheriff by the Carson City Charter began in early 2017 when Undersheriff Steve Albertsen announced that he would be retiring at the end of the year.
By summer, a large number of names were being added to the discussion and for consideration. In November, with the selection of Assistant Sheriff Ken Sandage to the role of incoming Undersheriff on December 27th, the administration was able to focus critically on the exact qualifications and expectations of the candidates for the remaining open position, and by early fall, resumes by interested persons were being received and the selection process narrowed.
Capital Police Chief Jerome Tushbant clearly and decisively exceeded all expectations and received the conditional offer of employment to begin at the end of the year.
Jerome Tushbant brings to the Sheriff’s Office a wealth of experience and knowledge essential to the position. He has 27 years of law enforcement experience, both in Nevada and California, is a Category I certified peace officer with the Nevada POST Commission, and has extensive first responder and investigations experience.
Educationally, Mr. Tushbant has a Masters Degree in Justice Management from UNR, a Masters Degree in Business Administration from University of Phoenix, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice, also from the University of Phoenix.
Jerome has presided over the safety and security of the State Capital Police Division since 2013. With his experience, he clearly and justly possesses the outstanding administrative experience, education, and enthusiasm considered to be most critical characteristics for the position.
According to Sheriff Furlong, Jerome has expressed core values that are consistent and critical to the Administrations success. He has a full understanding and support for the transparency of governance of the Sheriff’s Office, as well as an aggressive intention to keep every aspect of law enforcement engaged up front with the residents, businesses and visitors to the community.
The very nature of community oriented policing is a critical component of every law enforcement organization, and cooperative investments with everyone is essential to public welfare and conservative fiscal guidance. As the Sheriff’s Office and Carson community wind down a very successful 2017 year of accomplishments, Mr. Jerome Tushbant will bring a welcome fresh view into the current programs and philosophies of the Sheriff’s Office and lead an active path of progressive enforcement.
