The next Carson City Board of Supervisor’s meeting will take place Thursday, Jan. 21 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Robert ‘Bob’ Crowell Board Room in the Carson City Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Up for discussion includes improvements to the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, Grants for emergency housing, the proposed Little Lane Village subdivision and more.

Gov. Steve Sisolak is proposing a two-year budget that reverses cuts to Medicaid and other key K-12 programs made last summer, after financial projections left the state at what officials are calling an “inconsistent, if not positive, ending point” for tax revenue.

Featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Paul Klein, a partner at Tri-Strategies LTD, a government relations and public affairs firm with offices in Reno and Las Vegas. He will be lobbying on behalf of Compassion & Choices for medical aid-in-dying legislation due to be introduced during the 81st session, which begins February 1st. The bill gives terminally ill people with six months or less to live the option of taking medicine to end their life peacefully.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce new leadership roles for the School Board of Trustees. At their first meeting of the year Tuesday, Jan. 11, Joe Cacioppo, District 7, was named the newest president of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees.

Aaron D. Ford, Nevada's 34th Attorney General, will be the featured speaker at next Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. After two years in office and with two years left in his current term, General Ford will present a halftime recap of his accomplishments so far at the state and national levels, and the continuing challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Senior Shania West decided early that she wanted to graduate as a Pioneer Panther, and chose to attend Pioneer High School for all four years. She thought that it would be a good fit for her and she has no regrets. And, now with those years nearly behind her, Shania is looking forward to achieving her goal of going to college.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

Judicial candidates Ozzie Fumo and Bonnie Bulla will be the featured speakers at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon. Fumo, Nevada State Assemblyman for District 21 in Las Vegas, is running for Nevada Supreme Court, Seat D. Bulla, who was appointed to Department 3 of the Nevada Court of Appeals by Governor Steve Sisolak in February 2019, is running to retain that seat.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti has appointed Anne Carpenter as Colonel of the Nevada DPS, Highway Patrol Division. Colonel Carpenter officially takes command of the Nevada Highway Patrol on Monday, October 19, 2020. She will oversee 491 sworn officers and 96 non-sworn personnel.

This week, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office hosted training of school-based officers provided by the National Association of School Resource Officers. The training is viewed as essential certifications for officers working within educational environments and critical to the success of the “triad” concept of policing in school programs.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Items for discussion include new shade structures in the downtown area, grant funding for fuel reduction, surplus city funding, and more.

With this proclamation, the governor has perpetrated the most egregious insult of all Nevadans. He has also perpetrated the most egregious assault on fact, law and common sense.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak issued a proclamation on Wednesday to formally name racism as a public health crisis. Given Nevada’s diverse population as a minority, majority state, this call to action raises awareness so Nevada does not perpetuate poor health outcomes due to systemic racism during and after the pandemic.

On the agenda for discussion and possible action includes new city positions, a Library Board of Trustees position, CARES Act expenditures, indigent cremation and burial fee changes, road replacement and more.

CARSON CITY — Nevada Department of Public Safety Director George Togliatti appointed John Letos as Chief of the DPS Capitol Police Division. Chief Letos began his official command on July 15, 2020, and succeeds Dale W. Liebherr, who recently retired.

Gov. Steve Sisolak is rolling back orders to close bars in three rural counties but keeping closure orders in place in Las Vegas and Reno, while signaling a new emphasis on interventions that are narrowly tailored to noncompliant businesses and hotspot regions rather than entire industries.

Multiple groups were in front of the legislature Saturday, with the regular every-Saturday Black Lives Matter protest along with the counter “All lives matter” protesters, but this week a new group showed up to have their voices heard in the form of education advocates.

Western Nevada College’s 2020 graduates were honored by the school, their families, friends and community in a drive-through commencement ceremony on Friday in Carson City.

WNC graduated a record 650 students, including 94 students from the Jump Start College Program.

Today, in a unanimous vote, the Nevada State Board of Pardons Commissioners passed an amended resolution put forth by member Gov. Steve Sisolak in which those convicted of minor marijuana offenses would be pardoned.

For more than 15 years, Lisa Davis served as the DARE officer for Carson City. Her last day is Thursday as she and her husband Bob will be relocating to Oregon. She leaves Carson City with many accomplishments in providing children guidance and away from falling into the trap of alcohol and drugs.

Although Western Nevada College has delayed its commencement ceremony to honor its 2020 graduation class because of COVID-19, the college is proud to announce and congratulate its list of graduates.

Traditionally a Badge Pinning and Promotional Ceremony is conducted in a crowded room, filled with families, friends, and Sheriff’s Office staff, where everyone is given the opportunity to show support.

Under the very different circumstances and with consideration to the health and safety of Sheriff’s Office staff, families, and friends, limited attendance was permitted to the ceremony honoring Lieutenant Mays, Sergeant Tucker, and Deputy Robbins.

The Division of Child and Family Services on Monday announced 62 agencies, including 5 new agencies, will be awarded the annual Victims of Crime Act Assistance Formula Grant funding for the 2021 State Fiscal Year (SFY21) totaling $20 million.

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, the previously planned Carson City Board of Supervisor's meeting will continue as scheduled; however, during the mandated shut down, how the meeting will be held has been altered to suit the social distancing needed to keep all community members safe.
