Carson City sheriff's log: Man jailed for felony assault after Thanksgiving fight with brother

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday in the 1800 block of North Edmonds Drive on a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic battery after allegedly hitting his brother with a board during a fight, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Eduardo Juarez Leon was booked into jail with a bail of $33,000. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the area of Carmine Street for an assault. The victim told dispatch he was assaulted by his brother whom he invited over for Thanksgiving, according to the arrest report.

Deputies spoke with a female at the door who said the suspect and victim got into a fight but that the suspect had left the residence. She was reluctant to let a deputy inside but agreed after the officer stated he was concerned about the victim’s safety, the arrest report states.

Inside the deputy found the victim was bleeding heavily from his chin and the top of his head and had two lacerations. He was holding a towel to his face, which was saturated in blood. The officer asked the victim what happened.

The victim said he invited his brother over for Thanksgiving dinner. He said his brother came over with a friend but did not know anything else about him. The victim said his brother was drinking heavily and got into an argument, punching the friend in the face and chest. The victim said he yelled at his brother to leave the home. The victim said his brother then grabbed a board and hit him in the face and head with it two or three times. He said he punched his brother in the face to get away from him. He said the suspect left the residence and went northbound on Carmine Street.

While the brother was telling his account of the incident, the female at the residence kept telling the assault victim to “shut up.” She said she would not say any more of the incident. The officer attempted to speak with the guest in the home, who also appeared to be highly intoxicated and who did not answer questions. He had several contusions on the right and left side of his face and refused medical attention, the arrest report states.

The officer asked the victim where the piece of wood was. He did not say anything but gestured to the board next to the floor. The board appeared to be warped and had fresh blood on it. The officer collected it as evidence. There was also blood on the carpet and tile area of the living room floor and front door.

The suspect was found at a casino in the 1800 block of North Edmonds Drive sitting at the bar having a beer. Deputies asked him what happened. He said he got into a fight after his brother took his cell phone. He said the argument became heated and that his brother hit him in the face with an ax handle. He also complained of pain to his upper right arm and he was bleeding from his nose.

The officer asked the suspect if he hit his brother. He denied it at first but then stated his brother hit him and struck him with the ax handle. The officer asked him how his brother got injured on the face and head. He said he didn’t know. He was arrested. The suspect received approximately five stitches to his nose and was taken to jail.

In other arrests:
— A 69-year-old Carson City man, Alfonso Sparkman, was arrested Thursday, 11:11 p.m. on a felony parole and probation violation. The warrant was issued Aug. 20. He is being held without bail.

— A 25-year-old Reno woman was arrested Thursday 2:10 p.m. at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center on misdemeanor charges of obstructing and resisting a police officer. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to the hospital in reference to a stabbing.

Deputies made contact with the victim who appeared intoxicated. According to staff he had suffered at least one deep stab wound on the left side of his abdomen. Also present in the room was a woman who identified herself as the victim’s girlfriend. The officer asked the man what happened. He responded by say he did not know. He remained uncooperative and finally stated he did not wish to speak with the officer any further.

At this point the deputy asked the woman her name. The victim heard what the officer asked the woman stated “Devine.” The woman proceeded to give a name of “Devine” which turned out to be false. She provided the officer with a date of birth. The officer asked the woman what happened. She said the victim was stabbed. The officer asked who stabbed him. The woman said she didn’t know and declined to provide any more information.

Prior to leaving the officer asked the man again what happened. He said his girlfriend saw it. The victim said he would not give any further information, and then smiled and chuckled, the arrest report states.

Once outside the emergency room an officer contacted a woman who identified herself as the victim’s mother. She advised she received a call from the suspect advising her of the stabbing incident and asked for a ride to the ER. The officer asked the suspect’s mother who the woman was, the arrest report states.

The mother pointed to the suspect who was by this time sitting in front seat of the her car. The officer then attempted to speak with the suspect and questioned her about her true identify.

At this time she confirmed her real name and said that victim had asked her to “lie” to the officer. The woman then became angry and told the officer that she would not give any statement about the stabbing suspect, the arrest report states.

At this time, the officer asked the woman to step out of the vehicle. The officer advised he was going to arrest her for obstruction. She reluctantly stepped out of the car and started to turn away from the officer. The woman than began to dispute the arrest and kept turning away. Another deputy who had arrived at the ER for an unrelated matter, approached the woman and grabbed her other arm and she was cuffed and placed into the back of a patrol vehicle, the report states.

As she was being taken to jail she used constant profanity toward the officer and law enforcement in general. She was eventually booked on the charges, obstructing and resisting an officer.

During the booking process the officer located half of a small pill wrapped in clear plastic. The half pill displayed a partial number. When questioned she said the pill was given to her by a friend and that it was a “non-narcotic muscle relaxer.” She later decided to speak with the deputy voluntarily about the stabbing incident at which time she did not provide any tangible information regarding the suspect. She did, however, say his name is “Carlos.” Bail: $824.
