Carson Nugget to dish 58th Thanksgiving holiday dinner
The Carson Nugget continues its 58-year Carson City Thanksgiving tradition Thursday as it rolls out its free holiday feast for the entire community.
Preparation began on Monday and continues all the way until the doors of the Nugget's Convention Center open at 11 a.m. More than 40 volunteers have signed up and at least 850 people are expected. In previous years, the spread fed more than 1,000.
For this delicious meal, "everything is cooked fresh and everyone is invited," said Ron Hogarth, director of food and beverage for the Carson Nugget. "The seating is family-style set around large tables so everyone can get the holiday 'around the table' feeling."
The Carson Nugget menu is traditional Thanksgiving. The volume and weight of the food being prepared gives a bigger picture to what it takes to feed a community, said Banquet Chef David Sellers.
"It's a lot of food, with a lot of preparation with everything running in order," said Sellers. "It's all about teamwork, especially when you cook this much. We know the community will enjoy it."
Dinner will be served until 2 p.m.
