Building Your Resume & Interview Skills Night Tonight at WNC
WNC has student internship opportunities available. In preparation for students that are seeking employment, Western Nevada College will be hosting The Art of Interviewing: A Integrative Workshop on Interviewing & Resume Building. Free pizza & soda will be served to all who attend. It will take place on the WNC Carson City Campus inside the Reynolds Building in Room 103 starting at 6:00pm and going until 8:00pm.
Resume Building
•Introduction: The purpose of a resume
•Resume formatting
•Crafting job descriptions: using action verbs + how to make part-time jobs (e.g. cashier) marketable
Activity: Students will re-work a line from their resume to demonstrate a skill or accomplishment vs. plain job description
•Resume etiquette: sending resumes to employers
Interviewing
•Introduction: The purpose of an interview
•Millennial generation: clashes in the workforce
•Interview basics
1.Before the interview: dress, preparation, research
2.During the interview: first impressions, proper etiquette, crafting stories, overcoming nerves
•Activity: Students will perform an exercise to learn improvisational skills to think quickly & overcome nerves
3.After the interview: follow-up & thank you cards
•Q&A Session
Mock Interviews
•Students will engage in mock interviews with employers to practice their skills & receive feedback
