Carson City arrests: Man jailed for battery on an officer, obstructing
A 26-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon for suspicion of battery on a police officer, a gross misdemeanor, and lesser charges of obstructing and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a pizza restaurant in the 2000 block of East William Street regarding an unwanted person on the property. Deputies made contact with the Spanish Springs man, who was located on the ground and against the retaining wall behind the business.
His eyes were closed and he appeared to be sleeping. An officer attempted to wake the man and made several verbal attempts to communicate with him but was unsuccessful, the arrest report states.
The officer then nudged the man’s left foot. The man opened his eyes and the officer immediately identified himself as a deputy sheriff. The man stood to his feet quickly and yelled a racial slur at the officer, the arrest report states. The officer repeated he was from the sheriff’s office. The man moved toward one of the two deputies in an aggressive manner and spit on a deputy’s face, the arrest report states.
The deputies then took the man by the arms, in which he began to resist the officers and would not put his hands behind his back. The man was forced to the ground and was handcuffed. Bail: $4,049.
