Carson City Parks and Recreation leads 'Leave No Trace' Education Hike
This past Saturday, Nov. 3, a small yet passionate group hiked the Carson River and Mexican Ditch Trail while learning about “Leave No Trace.” This environmental recreation practice consists of the following seven principles:
Plan Ahead and Prepare
Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces
Dispose of Waste Properly
Leave What You Find
Minimize Campfire Impacts
Respect Wildlife
Be Considerate of Other Visitors
The department’s Ranger Aide, Tyler Kerver, and I led the participants along the river while discussing the importance of leaving our parks and open spaces better than we found them.
For anyone who can’t stay out of the outdoors, these guidelines are a must!
We plan on continuing this hike and incorporating the Leave No Trace philosophy into our other programs to increase respect and enjoyment of our natural resources.
So if you’d like to learn more about how to lessen your impact, make sure to attend our upcoming programs, listed on our Facebook page, Instagram, and Twitter, and look for our bi-weekly Interpretive Programs Newsletter!
