Carson City arrests: Man jailed for allegedly stealing $244 worth of booze from Walmart
A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of shoplifting after allegedly stealing several bottles of alcohol from Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
The man was taken into custody at 1:35 p.m. in the area of College Parkway west of Roop Street. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to Walmart in the 3200 block of Market Street in reference to a shoplifter running from the store.
A sheriff’s sergeant had stopped and detained the man on College Parkway west of Roop Street and store security, which followed, said they wanted the man placed under citizen’s arrest for the theft.
Store security related that the suspect had been at the store since 11:30 a.m. and that he was observed on video entering and exiting the store at lest four times with a gray backpack, the arrest report states.
The man was observed placing bottles of alcohol in the backpack and exiting the store without paying for the alcohol each time, placing them in the passenger seat of a red Toyota pickup. The value of the alcohol was $244.02. He was booked on suspicion of felony burglary/shoplifting. Update: charges were subsequently reduced to misdemeanor petit larceny.
In other arrests: A 47-year-old Fallon man was booked Tuesday into Carson City on a misdemeanor warrant out of Reno Municipal Court. Bail: $3,000.
