Carson City home burglarized after hairdresser allegedly shares vacation plan with suspects

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators have three people in custody who are alleged to have been involved in a residential burglary where several firearms, among other things, were stolen.

In custody are: Summer Mary Jacobs, 38, Aaron Davis Maurer, 36, and Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher, 41.

Jacobs was arrested for suspicion of the following: burglary and burglary of firearms, grand larceny, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, use of a credit card without the owner's consent, and possession of stolen property, all felonies. She also faces misdemeanor charges of obtaining money under false pretenses and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Aaron Davis Maurer was arrested on suspicion of the following: burglary of firearms, burglary, grand larceny of a firearm, being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, obtaining use of a credit card without consent, possession of stolen property, and parole violation, all felonies. He was also arrested for misdemeanor obtaining goods under false pretenses.

Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher, 41, was arrested for felony probation violation and is being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.

According to the arrest report, on Sept. 19 a residential burglary was report at a Hot Springs Road address. The residents were vacationing in Hawaii and the burglary was discovered by a member of the family. Forced entry was made into the residence through a window. A report was generated for the burglary but without the residents on scene. Stolen property was not identified.

On Sept. 23 the residents had returned home and a Carson City sheriff's detective met with the couple. They reported that several firearms, ammunition, jewelry, a computer, a Kohl's credit card and a child support debit card were stolen.

The victim advised the Kohl's credit card was used at the Carson City store Sept. 20. The store's loss prevention supplied video surveillance of a male and female suspect using the credit card, the report states.

The store also recorded the suspects leaving in a dark colored Pontiac with Nevada plates. The vehicle was registered to suspect Maurer. A Nevada driver's license photo reviewed looked like the male suspect from the Kohl's. He showed to be on parole in Nevada for burglary, the report states.

The detective checked with pawn shop records. The suspect had sold a men's gold wedding ring to a Reno pawn shop on Sept. 16 and a silver link chain to a Reno pawn shop on Sept. 18. The victim identified the jewelry as belonging to him, the report states.

Deputies assigned to the Tri-Net Task Force and the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team identified the female suspect as Summer Jacobs living at a Shenandoah Drive address. She was listed in the Sheriff's Office records as an ex-felon.

The couple were observed by deputies arriving at the residence in the Pontiac on the afternoon of Sept. 23. The vehicle was observed parked. Officers observed the man at the residence on Sept. 25.

The victims could not think of anyone who would have done the burglary or told anyone that they were vacationing in Hawaii. When the detective told the victims of the suspect's name, she learned that her hair dresser, Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher, was friends with Summer Jacobs on social media. McDaniel-Schumacher commented on some of the victim's vacation photographs on social media. The woman is on probation supervision with the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation.

On Sept. 25, the lead detective on the case applied for and was granted a search warrant for the Shenandoah Drive address and the man's Pontiac, to search for the stolen property. At around 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, Maurer and Jacobs left the residence and drove south on Imus Drive where a traffic stop was made on the Pontiac. The two were removed from the vehicle and detained.

The detective arrived on scene and met with the suspect and informed them they were under arrest for suspicion of burglary. The detective spoke with Summer Jacobs and recorded the interview on a body camera. The detective told Jacobs he was investigating a burglary and that she was on video at Kohl's using a stolen credit card from the burglary. The detective read the woman her Miranda rights and she agreed to speak.

An interview also later continued at the Carson City Sheriff's Office. According to the arrest report, Summer Jacobs admitted to the burglary. She stated she was friends with Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher. She said she told Jacobs and Maurer about a home where the people were gone on vacation. Summer Jacobs stated she drove Aaron Maurer and Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher to the victim's residence where they took tools from the backyard, the arrest report states.

Suspect Summer Jacobs said she only went to the residence the first time. She said Maurer and McDaniel-Schumacher went back to the residence where they gained entry through a window. She said the two later returned to the suspect's residence with guns, jewelry, and a computer, the report states.

Jacobs admitted to going to Kohl's with Maurer and using the suspect's Kohl's credit card to buy clothes for $160. Summer Jacobs also admitted to using the child support debit card at a casino to withdraw $120 from an ATM. She stated she helped Maurer hide the firearms in an alcove in her master bedroom closet. She stated the computer was beside her bed and the jewelry was in a table drawer in her bedroom.

Deputies located those items where Summer Jacobs described they would be. Five rifles and shotguns were found in the alcove that matched the victim's description of the items, the arrest report states.

Summer Jacobs told the detective she had met Aaron through social media and was involved in an intimate relationship with him. She stated the two had been staying, steadily at her residence for the past couple weeks.

A detective completed an impound of the Pontiac. In the trunk there was a large Dewalt tool box with numerous power tools, drills, sanders and hand tools. The detective showed the victim photos of the tools and he identified several of the power tools and hand tools that belonged to him, the report states.

A detective found several rings in a makeup case on the passenger floorboard. Deputies showed the victims photos of the rings, which were confirmed to be the victim's jewelry. The detective also located a methamphetamine pipe in the makeup case. Jacobs would later admit to ownership of the makeup case and knew the rings were in the makeup case, the arrest report states.

A detective interviewed Maurer at the Carson City Sheriff's Office, and read him his Miranda rights warning and he agreed to speak. He stated he lived in Reno but had no fixed address, having last lived at a motel in Reno. He stated he met Summer Jacobs a couple months ago on social media and he had been staying with her at her residence in Carson City on and off for a couple weeks.

He admitted to going to Kohl's with Summer Jacobs, but denied he knew she was using a stolen credit card. When the detective asked Maurer how he got the jewelry he sold to the Reno pawn shops, he stated he got the jewelry by trading "dope" for them, the report states. He denied any knowledge or involvement in the burglary. He admitted he knew Jennila McDaniel. He provided no other additional information on the burglary, the arrest report states.

Maurer's criminal history shows felony convictions for burglary, petty theft with prior convictions and numerous arrests and grand larceny of a motor vehicle. He was booked for the above charges. He's being held without bail on the probation violation charge. Bail for other charges, $40,000. Summer Jacobs is an ex-felon for possession of a controlled substance. She was booked for the above charges. She is being held on $40,000 bail bondable.

At around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher arrived at the sheriff's office, where detectives met with her in a recorded interview room. She was read her Miranda warning and agreed to speak. She confirmed she knew the victims and that she cut the victim's hair.

She also admitted to knowing Summer Jacobs and Aaron Maurer. She stated she had been hanging out with them at Summer's residence and using methamphetamine during the past month. She stated she had shown Jacobs and Maurer the social media posts from the victims. She told them where the victims lived and identified the home. McDaniel-Schumacher denied involvement in the burglary and she denied she identified the victim's specific residence or going with the two and showing them the victim's residence.

Jannila McDaniel-Schumacher was listed as wanted by Nevada Parole and Probation for probation violation. She was booked for probation violation and the investigation continues into her involvement. She is being held without bail in lieu of a hearing.
