Virginia City to hit the john running Oct. 1-2 at Championship Outhouse Race and Undie Relay
The sight of a pair of outhouses barreling down the street with thousands cheering them on in an all-out, old school potty race would probably be considered an odd form of entertainment almost anywhere, but not in Virginia City.
This annual fall tradition on the Comstock, the World Championship Outhouse Races, takes place the first weekend of October and pits teams of three costumed outhouse racers against each other, sprinting down the town’s historic main street, C Street, toward the toilet paper finish line.
This year is the 27th annual event, set for Oct. 1-2. Teams from all over Nevada and California come to compete in this hilarious racing spectacle. The 2015 World Champions, “Sport A Potty,” return to defend their spot on the throne against other clever teams such as “Storm Pooper” and “Commando Commode.” Potty humor abounds on the town’s loudspeakers throughout the two-day event.
Beginning at noon Saturday, Oct. 1, catch the parade of outhouses down C Street, with races following immediately after. The racing continues Sunday, Oct. 2 at noon and concludes with the crowning of the champion outhouse racing team. The double elimination tournament is now accepting registrations for three-person teams. Competition is open to anyone 18 and older and teams must provide their own outhouse to race. Registration is open online until Sept. 30, 2016.
Returning this year is the Undie Run Relay, taking place between outhouse races. Teams of three underwear-wearing runners participate in a hilarious beer-drinking obstacle course relay race down C Street. Registration is open online, must be 21 or older to participate.
The World Championship Outhouse Races are sponsored by Dolan Auto Group, Cemetery Gin, Bucket of Blood Saloon, Mustang Ranch Steakhouse, Coors Light, Reno Forklift and Camelot Party Rentals.
