Missing child from Lyon County recovered by U.S. Marshals in Georgia
The U.S. Marshals Service on Wednesday recovered a missing child in Atlanta who was taken by his father from Lyon County.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office began a parental abduction investigation Jan. 16, 2022 against Davon Townsell who was reported to have concealed his child from the child’s mother, according to the U.S. Marshals Service in a news release.
Investigation by LCSO detectives and the USMS in Reno showed that Townsell had taken his child to the Atlanta, Georgia area.
With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service in Atlanta, the missing child was recovered without incident. The child has been reunited with his mother.
Townsell was also taken into custody for an outstanding contempt of court warrant issued by the Lyon County, Third Judicial District Court.
“Missing child cases are utmost important to the U.S. Marshals Service as well as to our local law enforcement partners," said District of Nevada U.S. Marshal Gary Schofield. "Here is another example of local and federal agencies working together to achieve the safe recovery of a missing child.”
Nevada USMS Fugitive Task Force in Northern Nevada brings together the resources and expertise of state, local, and federal agencies in a coordinated effort to arrest dangerous and violent fugitives, the news release states.
The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Northern Nevada area is comprised of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada Attorney General’s Office, Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, Division of Investigations, Nevada Department of Corrections, Office of the Inspector General (NDOC IG), Nevada DMV Compliance and Enforcement Division, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
