Carson City sheriff’s arrest log: Man admits stealing laptop, phone from WNC classroom

A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on felony grand larceny and possession charges after admitting to stealing a laptop computer and smartphone from a Western Nevada College instructor, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Daniel A. Kwaitkowski was taken into custody in the 2000 block of West College Parkway. According to the arrest report, deputies met an instructor at the college who stated that her classroom was unoccupied when she went down the hall to make copies. She stated when she returned her laptop and iPhone were missing. She also said she had an app on her phone with GPS to locate it.

She showed deputies the location listed on the app as the nearby University Heights apartments. The deputy and instructor saw a man and woman exiting the commons area of the apartment complex. The GPS app showed the pattern matching the couple walking.

Two neighbors both said the couple walked into an apartment unit. Based on the eyewitnesses and GPS, the deputy applied for a search warrant, which was approved. Deputies knocked and announced their presence but there wasn't a response. Officers then made forced entry into the home and the couple was detained. The woman was identified at Kady Werlinger, 24.
