Here’s what’s happening:
— Daily through September, Muscle Powered is holding Membership drive to recruit new members. All new and renewing members in the month of September will be entered in a drawing to win a Gregory Hiking Day Pack.
Muscle Powered works to make Carson City healthier for all citizens and safer and more accessible for bicycling and walking through education and advocacy, the promotion of bicycle and pedestrian friendly infrastructure, and developing and maintaining recreational trails throughout the city. Muscle Powered is also responsible for organized weekly walks, hikes and bike rides, on and off road, throughout Carson City. Go here to learn more and sign up.
— Carson City Library teen Pizza Party, 2:30 p.m. Calling all teens! Come eat some pizza and play some games with us at the Carson City Library, 900 North Roop Street. We will be discussing this upcoming year and all the fun activities we will be offering. The library is teaming up with the Parks and Rec to make even more activities available for you. Make sure you come out to get your voice heard. This event is for teens only. All teens are invited; this event is not limited to CHS. Please register ahead of time here so we know how much pizza to buy.
— Carson City Library Introduction to Lynda.com, 5 to 6 p.m. Free with your library card, learn over 3,400 courses, technical skills, creative techniques and business strategies. Carson City Library, 900 North Roop Street.
— Carson City Library Overdrive Clinic, 6 p.m. Need help with ebooks? Bring your phone, tablet, or e-reader in and get some help with OverDrive, the library's downloadable service for eBooks, eAudiobooks and streaming video. Learn about setting up an account, searching for titles, downloading, using apps and more. If you have a mobile device, bring it to class. Registration is required. — Student Art Exhibition: The Wind Calls, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) announces it’s exhibition, The Wind Calls featuring nine University of Nevada, Reno, students’ work. The free exhibition is available to the public through October 9, 2018, Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 4:00 pm. It is held at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St., Carson City. The Wind Calls includes work by Mahedi Anjuman, Nicki Bracco, Mark Combs, Teal Francis, Hannah Huntley, Gwaylon Leaf, Frances Melhop, Ally Messer, and Carla Miller. The artists used a wide variety of art media including mixed media, ceramics, sculpture, painting, printmaking, and photography to make their art and comments on contemporary life and society.
— The Capital City Arts Initiative, also known as CCAI, presents its exhibition, "Jenny Raven: The Creative Growth Years 1979 - 1984" with artwork by artist Jenny Raven in the city’s Community Center Sierra Room, 851 E William Street, Carson City. The exhibition is available to the public through October 18, 2018. The Sierra Room is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Capital City Arts Initiative presents “Visual Oasis: Works from Creative Growth" at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. The exhibition, with art by 17 artists, will be in the gallery Monday through Friday until Sept. 27, 2018. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Live Music at Glen Eagle Restaurant, Sept. 12. Live Music Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m., 3700 N. Carson St.
— Live jazz jam tonight at Living the Good Life Nightclub, Bisto-Lounge with Blue Martini featuring Latisha Lewis, Neil Strocchio and Peter Supersano, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., 1480 N Carson St., Carson City.
— Wine and Dine Watercolor Classes, Sept. 12, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Black Bear Diner, 900 South Carson Street. Students get a reminder text each week. Drop in basis - no monthly commitment necessary.
