Carson City's newest Basque restaurant, the Martin Hotel, to close at end of the month
The Martin Hotel Basque Restaurant opened nearly one year ago at 308 Curry Street in Carson City, and now at the end of September they’ll be closing their doors.
“I have a birthday next month, and it’s causing me to sit back and refocus,” said the Martin Hotel’s owner John Arant. “I have two kids and three grandchildren and I want to be able to spend time with them. It’s a lifestyle change.”
The Martin’s last meal will be dinner served on the 29th of September.
The Martin Hotel opened in Winnemucca in the early 1900s and has been a staple in the community ever since, offering hot meals to cowboys and cattle drivers throughout the 20th century into modern day. Arant had his eyes on Carson City for an expansion for half a decade, he said, and opened the Martin in Carson City on Nevada Day of 2018.
The Martin Hotel served as an anchor business for the 308 Curry Street project, which has now been joined by the Squeeze Inn, as well as several businesses and tenants on the second and third floors.
The Winnemucca restaurant, or as Arant calls it, "the mothership," will remain open for the foreseeable future.
