No structures harmed after 4-acre brush fire Saturday in Yerington area
The Yerington, Mason Valley Fire Protection District was called out Saturday to the area of Nordyke Road in the Yerington area for an illegal burn. While responding, the fire department was notified that it was a working wildfire.
The call was upgraded to a first alarm assignment and mutual aid was requested from Central Lyon Fire District, North Lyon Fire District, and Bureau of Land Management.
Upon arrival units were met with a fast fire and heavy fuel load with structures threatened. Neighbors were fighting fire to protect the closest structure.
Fire Command requested an evacuation order for residents south of Nordyke as the winds were driving the fire south and east.
LCSO, YPD and NDOT closed Nordyke and State Route 339 to traffic.
Peri and Sons and Scatena Farms provided water trucks to assist with fire fighting operations. The following resources were on scene:
— YMVFD with 1 Battalion Chief, 4 brush engines, 2 structure engines, 1 tender, 1 ambulance and 1 Rehabilitation Unit.
— BLM 2 Brush Engines and 1 Battalion Chief
— CLCFPD 1 Brush Engine
— NLCFPD 1 Brush Engine.
— Peri and Sons 3 water trucks
— Scatena Farms 1 water truck
— LCSO 3 units
— YPD 3 unit
The fire was contained to 4 acres and no structures were damaged or destroyed. The cause of the fire is not known at this time and is being investigated.
