Nevada Trucking Association recognizes drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week
RENO — The Nevada Trucking Association, along with the Nevada Highway Patrol, California Highway Patrol and the entire trucking industry, is taking this week to honor the millions of professional truck drivers that deliver America’s freight safely and securely every day.
In honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation week, which began Sunday and runs through Sept. 15, the Nevada Trucking Association will mark the celebration by delivering gifts to members and drivers traveling through our state at the Annual Truck Driver Appreciation Day at the Truckee Scales at the Nevada-California Border.
“The role that our truck drivers play in our economy is essential. They touch every industry, delivering supplies to casinos, medicine to hospitals and food and clothing to our stores,” said Paul J. Enos, CEO of the Nevada Trucking Association. “National Truck Driver Appreciation Week recognizes the professionalism of these men and women as well as their dedication to safety.”
There are over 3.2 million professional truck drivers across the country, delivering everything from essential goods to back to school supplies. These professional men and women behind the wheel log close to 421 billion miles each year and in 2013 delivered 69.1 percent of the U.S. freight tonnage — or over 9.7 billion tons. Eighty percent of U.S. communities depend solely on the trucking industry. Professional truck drivers keep this country moving forward.
The trucking industry in Nevada provides over 50,000 jobs. There are over 3,000 trucking companies headquartered in Nevada, most of them small, locally owned businesses. These companies are served by a wide range of supporting businesses both large and small, moving 94 percent of total manufactured tonnage.. Over 80 percent of Nevada communities depend exclusively on trucks to move their goods.
The Nevada Trucking Association asks you to take a moment and recognize the significant contributions of our professional truck drivers. The efficiency and safety that these drivers guarantee allow businesses and American citizens to confidently ship goods across state lines and throughout America.
The Nevada Trucking Association wants to especially thank the 16,290 professional truck drivers in the state of Nevada.
