Cabela's NRA-Waterfowl Weekend on Sept. 14-15

Dear Outdoor Enthusiast, many of you are planning to be here next weekend, Sept. 14-15, for our NRA-Waterfowl Weekend.

If you haven’t put it on your calendar, you might want to add it based on what’s going on, highlighted below.
Lots of cool stuff for those interested in firearms safety and personal protection, waterfowl hunting seminars on a variety of topics, and several duck and goose calling contests plus kids’ activities and historical information.

Some highlights from the press release are below:

Representatives from the National Rifle Association will be at the store to hand out information, renew members and recruit new ones with special offers from Cabela’s including a $25 Cabela’s gift card to all renewing or new members and a special gift for the first 25 lifetime members showing their membership card.
Additionally, free firearms safety and home defense seminars by NRA-certified instructor Monty Turner will be offered both days, with seminars at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm.

Jeff May with APEX SCF will also offer a free, 90-minute Stay Alive seminar at 1pm on Saturday to teach you to be aware of your surroundings and what to do in certain situations to protect yourself and those around you.
Vendor representatives, prostaff and TV personalities will be in the store to share their knowledge including
Dennis Isbister of The Birdmen, prostaffer and TV personality Dale Dyer, prostaffers Justin Giuliani and Brock Perry, local call maker Jake Chattel, Mike Osterman with Zink Calls, Hevi-Shot and Mossy Oak and Gregg Tanner representing SportDog along with members of various Ducks Unlimited, California Waterfowl and Nevada Waterfowl Association chapters.

Gene Hattori, Curator of Anthropology at the Nevada State Museum, will talk about Tule duck decoys at 11am on Saturday and Fallon artist and Paiute-Shoshone tribe member Mike Williams will demonstrate how these decoys are and have been made for over 2,000 years.

Susan Sawyer, manager of the Visitor Center at Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge, will give an update at 1pm on Saturday regarding water levels and wildlife populations at the refuge and at Lahontan Reservoir on Saturday.
 
The Operation Game Thief trailer from the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will also be out front of the store all weekend and various fire departments will have their rigs on display in support of the first responders’ duck calling contest.

Coloring activities and the Duck Hunter Blaster X-treme game will be available for kids to try outside, as well.
Registration for the calling contests starts at 10:00am with the various contests to follow. An open duck, intermediate duck (16 and under), junior duck (12 and under) and open goose will be held as well as a first responder competition with prizes awarded to the winners in each category.

Entry fees are $5 for intermediates (16 and under), $10 for the open and first responder contests while junior duck (12 and under) entries are free.

All proceeds will go toward the winning first responder’s charity of choice.

The contests are non-sanctioned events and will take place outside to the West front of the store.

Carson Valley Days is back this week beginning Thursday in Douglas County.

The annual event is on its 114th year, and is hosted by the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club. This year’s theme is “MCV: Music in Carson Valley.”
