Retired Carson High teacher, coach raising money to fight breast cancer
Terry Hogan, a retired physical education and science teacher and coach at Carson High School, will be running in the Reno 10 Miler race Sept. 9 to raise money for breast cancer research.
Hogan, 80, said he is dedicating his fundraising run to Dr. Katie, a veterinarian at Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital in Carson City who is battling the disease.
"I am running to help support my friend, Dr. Katie, in her fight against breast cancer with all that I have," Hogan stated on his fundraising page, which has raised about $200 of a $2,500 goal so far. "By raising money and awareness through Real Men Wear Pink, I'm helping to save more lives from breast cancer especially, my dear friend."
Hogan will be running in pink to highlight his Real Men Wear Pink fundraiser. His dream is to run in the Boston Marathon in 2019.
His focus at the moment, though, is breast cancer awareness and research.
"Every day, the American Cancer Society is saving more lives from breast cancer than ever before," he stated on his fundraising page. "They're helping people take steps to reduce their risk of breast cancer or find it early, when it's easier to treat.
"They provide free information and services when and where people need it," Hogan added. "They fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and they're working to ensure access to mammograms for women who need them."
