Levitt AMP Carson City outdoor concert hosts acclaimed Tahoe band Dead Winter Carpenters
The Brewery Arts Center welcomes Americana favorites from Lake Tahoe, The Dead Winter Carpenters, as the headline act to The Change Companies’ stage for the Levitt AMP Carson City free music series this Saturday, August 10. Acclaimed singer singer-writer Spike McGuire is the opening act.
The show begins at 7 p.m. Only three concerts remain in the season, so it’s time to get with your friends, family, and neighbors and head out to the BAC in Carson City for some free, community concerts!
Sponsored in part by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a private family foundation that empowers communities to transform neglected public spaces into thriving destinations through the power of free, live music, the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series presents 10 free, family-friendly concerts at the Minnesota Street Stage right in the heart of the historic district in Downtown Carson City.
The series has a diverse lineup of high caliber talent spanning genres like Celtic, R&B, Mariachi, Zydeco, and Rockabilly.
Dead Winter Carpenters formed in 2010 and since then have been building a reputation for deep, heartfelt shows and unique Americana style. Their progressive sound is pushing what string music can do for a youthful generation, and this is exemplified in their newest album Washoe, which has influences from rock, country, bluegrass, and rockabilly. The North Lake Tahoe band plays both plugged and unplugged instruments to create a harmonious blend of sounds that is reminiscent of genre-benders like Jack White, Chris Thile, and Sam Bush.
They have found a riveting sound, have shared the stage with Jason Isbell, Greensky Bluegrass, and Hard Working Americans, and have created a connection with fans that sell out their shows. Members include Jesse Dunn on guitar, Jenni Charles with the fiddle, Dave Lockhart playing the bass, Nick Swimley leading with a telecaster, and Brendan Smith on the Drums. They are full of ambition, talent, and authenticity and are always looking to delight fans from many different music camps. This week, Levitt AMP Carson City audiences will enjoy a unique and innovative show with the Dead Winter Carpenters.
Joining the Dead Winter Carpenters is Spike McGuire out of Reno, Nevada. He has found his own style of Americana and — by building community and engaging his listeners — has found many parallels between the spirts of punk rock and folk music. He has released three albums, which can be heard on his website.
In 2011, Spike found Loud As Folk, a monthly songwriter series in Reno, NV, that has showcased acts from all across the world and has become a music hub on the West Coast. When not focused on Loud As Folk, Spike is an internationally touring artists, is endorsed by Graph Tech Guitar Labs, and has shared the stage with Lucero, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, Johnny Two Bags, and Graz Nicolay.
He has fun, homespun sound that will keep an audience tapping their feet. Spike will be opening for the Dead Winter Carpenters, and he will begin playing at 7pm.
The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open lawn and lot setting. Food trucks, libations, and kid’s activities will be available at each of the shows. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota, and like all Levitt AMP concerts this summer, admission is free.
