Carson City’s family-friendly ‘Bulldog Cyber Cafe’ welcomes gamers of all types
Just about two years ago, the Bulldog Cyber Cafe quietly opened its doors in the Grocery Outlet shopping center beside Bulldog PC Repair. However, they quickly outgrew their space, and three months ago, the new Bulldog Cyber Cafe opened its doors at 251 Jeanelle Street in Carson City.
“I was fixing gaming computers for people and we got talking about gaming online, and people kept telling me they wanted a cafe,” said owner Lindsey Jones, who runs both Bulldog businesses.
The cafe includes everything from gaming computers to consoles like XBOX and Playstation, to Virtual Reality stations. The newest addition to the mix will be a pool hall, and an arcade with classic arcade games.
“The pool hall will have a bar, serving beer and wine, with machines and pool tables and all that,” said Jones. “There won’t be any smoking in there, and then on the other side we’ll have the arcade, so the whole family can come. Parents can play pool while the kids are in the arcade or gaming in the cafe.”
Anyone can come to the cafe to play, said Jones, as long as they’re old enough to hold a gaming remote. They have access to every new game released, and if there’s something in particular a customer is after, the Cyber Cafe will procure it.
Prices to use the cafe are $20 per day or $5 per hour, with discount packages for families.
The Cyber Cafe just held a pool tournament over the past weekend on its three pool tables, which pulled a good turnout.
The tournament followed Billiard Congress of America rules and a bracket system as billiards enthusiasts battled it out in head-to-head competitions.
“We like to get people here and show some of the fun things we have going on,” said Jones. “Pool tournaments are a great way to spark some interest within the community.”
Before the tournament, a Calcutta-style auction took place to allow participants and attendees to place a friendly wager on who came out on top.
A grand prize of up to $400 was awarded to the winner, capping off an eventful afternoon full of scratches, breaks and eight balls in the corner pockets.
