Traditional and vocal to Americana headline 2016 Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival
Get ready for an exciting month of music when the 13th annual Jazz & Beyond festival kicks off this weekend with events scheduled for the Bliss Mansion and Silver Saddle Ranch.
The opening event, Friday August 5, features music and an art show and sale at the historic Bliss Mansion, across the street from the Governor’s mansion. Music by the Triple Treble flute trio begins at 4:30 p.m. A performance by Cherie and John Shipley with Take This band will follow at 6:30 p.m. The band will play customized original versions of jazz, R&B, and other favorite musical styles.
Sunday, August 7, bring the family and enjoy a day at Silver Saddle Ranch, one of Carson City’s beautiful natural recreation areas, located at 4 Carson River Road. This event also celebrates the 20th anniversary of Carson City’s Quality of Life Initiative. The Wild Ass Women and their burros will be on hand.
Performances begin at 3:00 p.m. with CW & Dr. Spitmore known for ragtime western and Americana music. Hick’ry Switch follows at 4:00 p.m. with an Americana and bluegrass sound. Singer songwriter Alex Muddy Smith takes the stage at 5:00 p.m. performing in various genres from jazz to country. The evening ends with country-western favorites performed by Sagebrush Rebels beginning at 6:00 p.m.
There is no charge for the events. Feel free to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics to both venues. A food truck will also be available.
