In an era of social and physical distancing, people crave the communion of family, friends and neighbors more than ever before. As we enter another month of pandemic restrictions, many in our community seek a safe way to connect in-person with their loved ones during these uncertain times.

Friends and acquaintances of Tony Pastini described him as a generous member of the community, a long-time supporter of local youth programs. He was a friendly face to his neighbors.

Saturday is recognized nationwide as National Ghost Hunting Day as well as Nevada Public Lands Day statewide. Odd as it may seem, the two can be combined at haunts around Nevada.

Looks like another great day to stay indoors. The Carson City Library has several activities planned today, and one of them might be what you’re looking for. The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival is in full swing, so you’ll find plenty of music around.

It almost seems like the weekend is starting early, with all the great times offered today. The Carson City Fair is in full swing and will offer family-friendly fun through Sunday. Movie-lovers of all ages will enjoy tonight’s Movie on the Plaza: Princess Bride. It’s free to attend, but you’ll want to bring your own seating. The Capital City Community Band has a free concert and ice cream social scheduled for this afternoon at the First United Methodist Church. All are welcome, and it’s hard to argue with ice cream on a day like this. If you are looking to start your own business, but still some legal guidance, you’ll find the ‘Lunch-n-Learn’ workshop at the Adams Hub extremely helpful.

Carson City Fire Department personnel were called Monday afternoon to Veranda View Motel in the 1000 block of South Carson Street for a report of a vehicle that hit the building.

After 40 years of business, the historic Café at Adele’s restaurant is up for sale.

Owners Charlie and Karen Abowd are looking toward retirement and have put the restaurant and the real estate — an historic Comstock-era Mansard-roofed Victorian home built in 1864 — up for sale.

One might think that the end of summer means that the fun times are over: they would be wrong. This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

THURSDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Cafe at Adele’s welcomes Niall McGuinness and New World Jazz Project, Thursday, Aug. 17, as the Veranda Series continues and to mark the 14th annual Jazz & Beyond Carson City Music Festival.

There are some things that one never thinks they will see in their lifetime. I must admit, the Carson City Freeway was one of those things. But lo and behold, the new 580 extension opened its last leg to traffic yesterday. The hot summer temperatures continue, so seek indoor entertainment during the day and keep cool.

Happy Thursday, Carson City. Help move the workweek along by doing something fun. You’ll always find the boys of J and M Productions running the karaoke show at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Living the Good Life has music every night Tuesday through Saturday, and tonight it is Dougie L’s turn to entertain. The Café at Adele’s is always a good choice for date night, but when they also have music on their veranda, you’ve got all the ingredients for a memorable night.

Dogs and their humans occupied the Cafe at Adele's veranda Saturday, part of a day-long fundraiser for Dog Town Canine Rescue in downtown Carson City.

Please join Dog Town for a very special day at Adele's in downtown Carson City on Saturday, July 22! We will be there from 10:30 - 2:00, and again from 5:00 - 7:30 for a fund raiser, with 25% of the proceeds from meals purchased being donated to Dog Town.

Everyone get ready for the Ninth Annual Concert Under the Stars, a benefit for The Greenhouse Project, with headliner The Family Stone and featuring Lydia Pense and Cold Blood on Wednesday, July 12 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King Street in downtown Carson City.

Man's best friend was the guest of honor Saturday on the veranda at the Café at Adele's, where the Carson-Tahoe SPCA is holding its "Paws on the Veranda" fundraiser until 9 p.m. tonight.

Whoa doggy, what a weekend. Get ready for an exciting month of music when the 13th annual Jazz & Beyond festival kicks off this weekend with events scheduled for the Bliss Mansion and Silver Saddle Ranch.
