High volume of cats arrive at Nevada Humane Society; free cat adoptions this weekend
Severe cuteness alert! Nevada Humane Society is waiving adoption fees on all adult cats for three days only, this weekend, July 15 through 17. You can adopt an adult cat for free — choose from young cats, old cats, skinny cats, fat cats, cute cats or ugly cats! There are spotted cats, striped cats, white cats and black cats. They all need to find a home — YOUR home! Standard adoption policies apply.
“Recently, there have been two situations where people have found themselves in over their head and needed us to step in and help.
Over 80 cats have arrived at our shelter from these situations in the past week — and looking at the bigger picture, over 500 cats total have arrived in the last couple of weeks—emphasizing that this is the time of year when population as a whole drastically increases,” said Kimberly Wade, Senior Manager of Communications and Events at Nevada Humane Society. “We are happy to be able to help people who really need it, and know that we will find these cats loving homes, but we really need people to come in this weekend and adopt to help us free up that much needed kennel space.”
Adoption fees on all adult cats (any cats over the age of four months) will be waived Friday, July 15 through Sunday, July 17 at both the Reno and Carson City shelter. All cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Kittens are $60 and adult dogs are $50.
“This sudden increase in incoming cats puts a huge strain on an already extremely busy shelter. Nevada Humane Society, along with the other local animal shelters and rescue groups, is working hard to create a true safety net for the homeless animals of our community. This safety net is truly only made possible by the citizens of this community who open up their hearts and homes to these pets,” said Denise Stevens, COO for Nevada Humane Society.
Nevada Humane Society is open daily, from 11am until 6:30pm except for Saturdays in which it opens an hour earlier at 10am. For adoption in Reno, visit 2825 Longley Lane. For adoptions in Carson City, visit 3770 Butti Way. For more information, visit www.nevadahumanesociety.org or call 775-856-2000.
