Power outage affects more than 8,000 customers in Carson City, Carson Valley

A power outage affecting around 8,100 NV Energy customers occurred at around 5:38 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Carson City and Carson Valley areas just as a strong thunderstorm cell was moving through the region.
Some areas experienced a brief power surge following thunder.
There are 149 outage points and 3,860 NV Energy customers reported without power in Carson City north of the Spooner Junction interchange with U.S. Highway 50 West, Interstate 580 and U.S. Highway 395 South.
The outage in Carson City appears to be clustered around the Carson Street corridor, from around Silver Sage and Roop to the East and Curry, Division and Mountain streets West of Carson Street. The cluster extends as far north as beyond East William Street near downtown Carson City.
There are 15 outage points and 3,352 NV Energy customers reported without power in North Douglas County, the South Carson City area, from about Jacks Valley Road south to Johnson Lane.
Another 48 outage points and 892 NV Energy customers are reported without power in the Minden-Gardnerville areas.
Damage to power equipment is reported as the cause of the outage. Estimated time for power to be restored in Carson City and Carson Valley areas is 8:30 p.m.
