28 months and counting: $5,000 reward offered for information in Anna Marie Scott's murder
It’s now been two and a half years since 23-year-old Paiute mother Anna Marie Scott was shot and left in a burning car on I-580.
Despite Scott’s body being discovered on Feb. 3, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office did not release her identity until Feb. 7, even though numerous social media posts from friends and family had already been posted regarding her death.
A full month passed before the Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner released information that Scott had been killed by a gunshot wound, officially naming her death a homicide.
Since her public murder, law enforcement has refused to provide basic information regarding the killing such as: where Scott was last seen, what kind of car she was left in and who it belonged to, what type of gun was used to kill her and how long she had been dead when her body was found.
Now, Secret Witness is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information regarding her death.
In a recent plea for information, the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe identified the car as belonging to Scott, but this has never been confirmed by law enforcement.
There was one lead into Scott’s murder that was quickly cut short: 23-year-old Jacori Shaw was wanted for questioning in Scott’s murder, but was not being sought as a suspect. What information he may have had, however, was never determined, as Shaw was shot and killed during a multi-agency sting.
His death was deemed justified despite clear contradictions by reports made by law enforcement officers themselves as well as footage and documentation from body cams and interviews.
The officer who shot and killed Shaw claimed he pointed a gun at officers. However, a gun was never seen in any body camera footage, nor was one ever discovered by officers while they searched for the weapon with their body cameras recording. A gun was later photographed by crime scene investigators despite the area being heavily searched by officers previously who could not find any weapon in the area.
More inconsistencies into the killing of Shaw here.
