UPDATE 8:59PM: The Pedlar Fire in Silver City is being transfered to the Sierra Front Incident Management Team, Lyon County reported tonight on its Facebook page. Sierra Front reports at its 8:45 p.m. briefing that the fire has been reduced from 300 acres to 96 and is 40 percent contained.

Highway 342 from the Y through Virginia City is still closed. Highway 341 is open. The shelter has been closed and any evacuees are being allowed home.

UPDATE: 7:38PM: Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center has retracted the amount of acres it had originally scheduled as a downsize. Originally reported at 90 acres from 300 acres, it went back to 300 acres. This was not a mistake or error on the part of Carson Now. Sierra Front made the changes minutes after it had posted the 90 acre downsize to its website.

The reason from the number returning to 300 acres is because when the fire agencies are mapping, "they are making the best guess to the acreage and once they get a chance, for a gps map and walk the perimeter and get a final number of the acreage, the number can change considerably either up or down," said Sierra Front spokeswoman Elayn Briggs.

Sierra Front acknowledges the mistake in the 90 acre report it made earlier this evening. The fire is still 40 percent contained, and that will likely improve as the night goes on. Highway 341 from Highway 50 to the truck route 'Y" will be reopened tonight. Highway 342 from the "Y" through Silver City to Virginia City will remain closed overnight. The remainder of Highway 341 past the truck route will also be opened.

UPDATE 7:20PM: Firefighters battling a fire that began Sunday afternoon in the American Canyon area of Silver City in Lyon County have downsized the area burned from 300 to 90 acres. All evacuations are being lifted as the threat from the fire has significantly lessened.

The reason for the downsize is because firefighters were able to walk the perimeter of the fire early Sunday evening to get a better handle on what burned and how much, said Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center spokeswoman Elayn Briggs. The fire is 40 percent contained.

Highway 341 from Highway 50 to the truck route "Y" will be reopened. Highway 342 from the "Y' through Silver City to Virginia City will remain closed overnight. The remainder of Highway 341 past the truck route will also be open.
