Friday, June 19: Things to do in Carson City

We made it, Carson City! It’s Friday, and the first day of summer is this weekend. The Reno Rodeo has begun, and there are several days to get in on the action. Tonight, Carson City BMX is hosting Race for Life, and anyone with a bmx bike and a helmet can participate in helping them raise funds for a good cause. The annual Powwow kicks off at the Stewart Indian School with Grand Entrance at 7 p.m. Head to Comma Coffee and celebrate eleven years of World Dance Open Floor: just watch or sign up to show your moves.

Long summer nights mean even more fun to be had. Catch the Whitehats, Josh and Jenera, at Sassafras tonight and tomorrow. Swing into summer with jitterbug lessons and hours of dancing at Yaple’s Ballroom downtown. Karaoke can be found at Whiskey Tavern. The Carson City Library is hosting three Sixteen Rivers Press poets for a poetry reading of their recently published works. A to Zen hosts an all ages open mic every Friday, so bring an instrument or just yourself to their Zen Den.
