Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

The Stewart Father's Day Powwow will be held June 14-16, 2019. Come celebrate Father's Day Weekend with the entire family and experience American Indian Heritage, history and pride at the Stewart Father's Day Powwow.

The former Stewart Indian School in Carson City will come alive with over 200 dancers, over 40 arts and crafts vendors and Indian Tacos. Admission is free. Click on flier for more information.

The Stewart Father's Day Entry is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at noon. This is an alcohol and drug-free event.

The Stewart Indian School Father's Day Powwow often stands out to attendees by the setting alone. “It’s a beautiful campus with multicolored stone buildings as well as the the grassy field,” said Sherry Rupert, executive director of the Nevada Indian Commission. “That’s a big attraction because most powwows are held in dirt or in parking lots.”

The Stewart Indian School was the only off-reservation boarding school in Nevada for American Indian students over a 90-year span.

With the Epic Rides Off-Road Series mountain biking race set for this summer, the Carson City Visitors Bureau can pump up the fat tire frenzy along with its promotion thanks in part to a $4,000 grant, among 65 approved for funding from the state’s rural tourism program, Nevada Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison announced Wednesday.

Feathers, beads and bells danced through the Stewart Indian School campus in Carson City for family and friends this Father's Day weekend. The Stewart Father's Day Powwow displayed outstanding dancers, traditional food and local vendors. The weekend long celebration began Friday and will continue until Sunday.

We made it, Carson City! It’s Friday, and the first day of summer is this weekend. The Reno Rodeo has begun, and there are several days to get in on the action. Tonight, Carson City BMX is hosting Race for Life, and anyone with a bmx bike and a helmet can participate in helping them raise funds for a good cause. The 2015 Stewart Father’s Day Powwow in Carson City is June 19-21 at the Stewart Indian School Campus. Hosted in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission and the Stewart Father’s Day Powwow Committee, the annual powwow includes quality Native American arts and crafts vendors and is also a time for alumni, former employees, families and friends to gather at the former campus.

Stewart Indian School in Carson City hosts its annual Father’s Day Powwow, Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 15, and is one of the sanctioned 150 events celebrating Nevada’s Sesquicentennial – 150 years of statehood. Everyone is invited to experience the beauty and significance of Nevada’s Native American heritage through traditional dance competitions, music and elaborate costumes of this wonderful, rich culture.

With tens of thousands of people in Carson City last weekend for local events including Taste of DownTown, the Carson City Airport Open House and the Father's Day Powwow, law enforcement arrest records show a relatively quiet weekend.

"We had an excellent weekend and it goes to show that when there are positive family and community events happening around town, the amount of crimes reported falls very low from all points, north to south, east to west and downtown," said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
