Carson City veteran of two wars to lead Memorial Day weekend parade in Virginia City
Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in historic Virginia City with the annual Celebration of Heroes Parade Saturday, May 24 at noon. Taking place down C Street, the parade honors the memory of those who gave their lives for this country.
The grand marshal for this year’s Celebration of Heroes Parade is Richard Beaudette of Carson City, who served in both World War II and the Korean War. Beaudette was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served in Germany. After the tour of duty, Beaudette entered the Army Reserve. Four and a half years later he was called back to active duty in Korea where he soon achieved the rank of Captain.
Beaudette was discharged in 1962 after more than 15 years of service. He has been a resident in Carson City for the past 50 years.
Other parade entries include veteran’s groups, classic car clubs, equestrian groups and marching units. To join the parade, go online to download a parade form and for a list of weekend activities.
Also opening Memorial Day weekend is the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, kicking off their season Saturday, May 24. For a list of the schedule and to purchase tickets visit V&T online, go here.
