Work-based learning program accepting applications at Carson Valley high schools
Career Bound NV, a division of JOIN Inc., is now accepting applications from qualified students in the class of 2020 and 2021 at Douglas High School and Aspire High School in Carson Valley for the pilot launch of the work-based learning program.
Career Bound Nevada serves as the intermediary between industry and education, and engages students in career exploration, skill development, internships and paid work experiences.
A limited number of paid work experiences are available for this pilot program. Successful applicants will work in a local business for a minimum of nine months and up to two years. While in the program, students will work with a career mentor to develop skills and knowledge applicable to a future career in their chosen industry pathway while earning wages and credits. Work experience will take place during business hours and be coordinated with each student’s individual class schedule.
“This first cohort of Career Bound NV will provide Douglas County youth with access to the tools and resources they need to identify their career interests and skills,” Denise Castle, CEO of JOIN said. “This program will allow students to gain the hands-on experience necessary to enter exciting and well-paying careers after school.”
All Douglas High School and Aspire High School students wishing to apply to the first cohort of Career Bound NV may secure an application from Mr. Jim Meyers in the Career and Technical Education office at Douglas High. Applications are due by May 31, 2019.
Students and parents looking to learn more information about the program are encouraged to attend an information session. Lunch meetings for students will be held May 23 at Aspire High School from 11:03 a.m. to 11:33 a.m. and from 11:52 a.m. to 12:27 p.m. at Douglas High School. An information session for parents will be held May 29 at Douglas High School from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
