Carson City investigators arrest Dayton man tied to string of storage unit burglaries
A 42-year-old Dayton man was arrested Tuesday in connection with several burglaries of commercial storage units that date back to last year, a Carson City sheriff's detective said.
In 2016, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office investigated numerous commercial burglaries at a storage unit facility at 1179 Fairview Drive in Carson City. During the investigation, investigators identified a suspect, Matthew Gonzi of Dayton, Nev.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for Gonzi’s Dayton residence. Investigators recovered a large amount of stolen property from the Gonzi residence. Gonzi was not arrested at the time of the search warrant, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective Sam Hatley.
During the investigation, Gonzi assisted investigators in recovering additional stolen property in Carson City and Douglas County.
Investigators obtained eight burglary warrants for Gonzi from Carson City Justice Court. On Tuesday, May 16, Gonzi was arrested by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at his Dayton residence. Gonzi was transported and booked into the Carson City Detention Facility for the eight counts of burglary.
