UPDATE 12:47PM: According to KTVN Channel 2, authorities say one person is confirmed dead after a small recreational aircraft crash that sparked the 80-acre Slide Fire. The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

The Slide Fire that began Sunday afternoon north of Carson City on Slide Mountain following a crash involving an aircraft is now 80 acres and 10 percent contained, the U.S. Forest Service reported Monday morning.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Board of Education on Thursday approved a regulation to require computer science be included in the Computer Education and Technology course required for graduation from high school.

With daily news reports of gang shootouts and knifings in cities all across America, I thought it would be good time to update our community on where Carson City stands when it comes to dealing with local gang issues. The Carson City Fire Department is on scene of a reported structure fire at a three-story apartment complex in the 600 block of College Parkway near Retail and Emerson drives.

Trees are dropping leaves or needles. Leaves may be turning brown. Some are showing fall colors. What’s going on with trees?

You’ll find annual events like Civil War Days in Virginia City and the Best in the West Rib Cook-off in Sparks, in addition to smaller happenings like the monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk and a roller derby double-header.
