Fire fuels management teams in Lyon County offer weed, vegetation removal assistance
Do you live or own a business in Silver City, Moundhouse, Dayton, Stagecoach or Silver Springs? If yes check out how to get weeds and vegetation removed from your property through Central Lyon County Fire Protection District's Fuels Management Program.
The Central Lyon County Fire Protection District continues to offer services through the Fuels Management Program. The goal of this program is to assist homeowners in clearing their yards and neighborhoods of yard debris and help to significantly reduce the threat to homes in high fire hazard areas. Central Lyon County Fire Protection District has three dump trailers for use by the public to clean up flammable vegetation.
The Fuels Management Team will deliver a trailer to your home for you to fill with vegetation, consisting of strictly woody, leafy vegetative material. We will then pick the trailer up and dispose of the material at no charge to the property owner.
Appliances, hazardous materials, auto parts, construction material, lumber, metals, plastic, rocks, dirt, concrete, animals, or any other man-made materials will not be accepted. If there is any prohibited material in the trailer at the time of pickup, the team member will dump the trailer where it sits and remove the trailer.
Central Lyon County Fire District sees this as a great opportunity to serve the community and look forward to assisting citizens in making their homes safer from the threat of wildfire and creating defensible space. To take advantage of this valuable program you must complete an application for trailer use. For more information contact the Fire District office at (775) 246-6209.
Smith Valley or Wellington can checkout how you can have weeds and vegetation removed from your property through the Smith Valley Fire Protection District.
With the assistance of a U.S. Bureau of Land Management grant, the district was able to purchase two 10,000 pound-capacity dump trailers to loan to citizens in the Smith Valley Fire Protection District for use on fuel reduction projects during non-fire season months. For more program information, call the Main Office at 775-465-2577 Monday through Wednesday from 9 AM to 1 PM.
