CARSON CITY — Governor Joe Lombardo announced the appointment of Christopher Sewell as Director of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
“I’m excited to announce Chris Sewell as the incoming Director of DETR. Chris is dedicated to serving Nevadans, and I’m confident that he’s going to continue his outstanding state service by bringing new purpose and leadership to DETR,” said Governor Joe Lombardo.
Sewell has served in the department for the past six years and as deputy director for the past year and a half. He brings more than three decades of experience in regulatory oversight and public service.
Before working at DETR, he served the Division of Insurance in the Compliance Unit and the Real Estate Division as chief of the Compliance/Audit Unit. He started his regulatory duties with the Nevada Transportation Authority as an investigator and has worked for the Public Utilities Commission as a financial analyst, senior compliance investigator and acting manager in the Consumer Unit.
Prior to his state service he was a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Washoe County School District police officer.
Sewell is a fifth generation Nevadan born in Reno and holds a degree in Business Administration from Menlo College.
The Director of DETR oversees six divisions, budget, performance, organizational policy and sets the vision for the agency. In his new role, Sewell wants to continue to invest in workforce development, furthering DETR’s commitment to providing Nevadans with resources and tools they need to thrive and succeed.
