Brewery Arts Center hosts New York performer Heather Harpham for a special Earth Day show
The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City will feature “Burning”, a one woman show this weekend for Earth Day. Burning is a highly kinetic, semi-comic romp through the absurd landscapes of climate change where comedy, tragedy, activism and cautious optimism collide.
Using movement, song, monologue, and otherworldly images — the piece pings between Hurricane Sandy, our obsession with apocalyptic movies, NPR's narcoleptic effect, and the million trivial tasks that preoccupy us while Rome burns. Written and performed by Heather Harpham.
Heather Harpham, a writer and performer, has taught physical theater and improvisation at colleges, universities and conservatory programs throughout the US — including Sarah Lawrence College, SUNY Purchase, Muhlenberg College and The Neighborhood Playhouse.
Her highly kinetic solo shows and theatrical collaborations have been presented throughout the US. BURNING has previously appeared in the All For One Festival, The One Woman Standing Festival, was produced by Kansas State University, Manhattanville College, PACE University, and the Millibo Arts Theater of Colorado. Internationally, Harpham’s work has been part of the Kathmandu International Theater Festival of Nepal and the Notafe New Dance Festival of Estonia.
Harpham has received the Brenda Ueland Prose prize for her fiction writing, a grant from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, and a Marin Arts Council Independent Artist Grant. Her writing has been published in MORE Magazine, Water-Stone Review and American Theatre magazine. In August of 2017, Holt will release her memoir, Happiness. www.heatherharpham.com
