Supervisors look to fill four spots on Shade Tree Council
The Carson City Board of Supervisors is looking to fill four positions on its Shade Tree Council. One position is to fill an unexpired term that will expire January 2016. The other three are each to fill a term that will expire January 2017.
The Shade Tree Council provides advice to the Board of Supervisors on matters concerning the development, maintenance, management and promotion of a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest in Carson City. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every other month at 5:30 pm in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center.
The Shade Tree Council ordinance establishes policies, regulations and standards necessary to ensure Carson City will realize the benefit provided by its community forest. Some of the provisions of this ordinance are: establish and maintain tree cover on public and private lands; maintain public trees in a safe and healthy condition; establish appropriate diversity in tree species; and promote conservation of healthy trees.
This council advises the Board of Supervisors on all tree related issues involving public, commercial, industrial, business and residential areas. They also do training seminars, Arbor Day events and special tree related projects.
Applicants should be aware that a minimum commitment of up to ten hours a month is expected. All members will serve without compensation. Applicants must be Carson City registered voters to qualify. The City’s Boards, Committees, and Commissions Policy and Procedures can be viewed online at www.carson.org/volunteer.
Volunteer applications may be obtained from and returned to the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson Street #2 Carson City, Nevada 89701. Applications submitted are considered public information.
Applications will be accepted until May 8, 2015. Interviews for the volunteer position will be scheduled for the first available Board of Supervisors meeting upon receipt of qualified applications. The Board of Supervisors regularly meets on the first and third Thursday of the month.
