Local non-profit GREENevada announced Thursday the winners of the 2020 Golden Pinecone Sustainability Awards, a prestigious annual event recognizing local individuals and organizations working towards a more sustainable Nevada.

Carson City Chamber Leadership Class plant trees near Cancer Center in honor of Arbor Day

It's officially Arbor Day and the day to hug a tree! Or, better, plant one!

That's what some of the members of the Chamber's Leadership Class did early Friday morning as phase one of their class project.

Leadership Carson City 2020 celebrates Arbor Day by planting trees along bee hotel trail

Each spring, the Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute Class is fully immersed in their class project. This time last year, the Class of 2019 was as busy as bees preparing the land behind the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center to build the city’s first bee hotel hoping to attract bees to pollinate The Greenhouse Project plants.

New trees planted in Mills Park in honor of Carson City's 25th anniversary as Tree City on Arbor Day

To celebrate Carson City’s 25th anniversary of becoming a Tree City USA, Carson City Parks and Recreation with and the Before and After School Program planted new trees in Mills Park on Arbor Day.

Kids from the program, as well as the public, were treated to an education lesson following the planting about the importance of trees, and Mayor Bob Crowell wrote a proclamation for the event.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space department welcomes all community members to celebrate with us as we plant a new tree in Mills Park and read Mayor Bob Crowell's proclamation. The event runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Carson City Arbor Day celebration Saturday features treasure hunt, fun run/walk

The Carson City Shade Tree Council and the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department will be celebrating Arbor Day this Saturday, April 25th at Long Ranch Park. The ceremony which will begin at 10 a.m. will celebrate Carson City’s 21st year recognition by the National Arbor Day Foundation, out of Nebraska City, Nebraska as a “Tree City USA.”

The Nevada Division of Forestry will be presenting the award to Carson City on behalf of the Foundation. Mayor Bob Crowell will read the Carson City Arbor Day proclamation and a state official will read the Nevada Arbor Day proclamation.

Garden Club to Honor Past Member at Arbor Day Activities

Supervisors look to fill four spots on Shade Tree Council

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is looking to fill four positions on its Shade Tree Council. One position is to fill an unexpired term that will expire January 2016. The other three are each to fill a term that will expire January 2017.

The Shade Tree Council provides advice to the Board of Supervisors on matters concerning the development, maintenance, management and promotion of a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest in Carson City.

Arbor Day 5k Fun Run/Walk this Saturday in Carson City

The Carson City Shade Tree Council's annual Arbor Day event this year is being held this Saturday at 10am. Join us and our sponsors for a fun-filled 5k fun run/walk at the Riverview Park in Carson City.

Riverview Park is located at the end of East 5th Street, next to the Korean War Memorial. There is parking and facilities to accommodate the whole family.

Carson City Shade Tree Council to recognize GROW at Arbor Day ceremony

Arbor Day 2013 in Carson City will be on April 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Fulstone Park. This year's event will recognize Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides (or GROW for short) with its landscaping efforts along the Carson City freeway.

In November 2012 GROW was recognized as Carson City's "Organization of the Year" at the city's Parks and Recreation annual awards ceremony held in partnership with the Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City and the Carson City Historical Society.

Shade Tree Council Hosts Tree Care Seminar

For the 20th consecutive year, the Carson City Shade Tree Council will host its annual Fall Tree Care Seminar on November 2, 2011. The Seminar will be held in the Sierra Room at the Community Center from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. and is open to all tree care professionals and tree lovers in the community. The Community Center is located at 851 East William Street in Carson City.

Carson City Tree Walk

Tom Henderson will conduct a walking tour of remarkable trees on Saturday, May 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at Bordewich-Bray School. This stroll along King Street will include several Nevada Champion trees, the largest of its species recorded in the state.
Mr Henderson will point out several distinctive trees proximate to King Street which he recommends for planting in our climate. This informative tour will pause at several trees to review their particular characteristics and to provide broader perspectives on the benefits of an urban forest.

The Carson City Shade Tree Council will host its annual Arbor Day Celebration. The hour-long celebration will be held at Governors’ Field (behind Lowe’s). Among those attending will be Smokey Bear who will help the Council plant the Northern Red Maple selected by the staff of Carson City’s Park and Recreation Department. The tree planting is scheduled at 6 p.m. The Council paid for the tree with money it raised at annual Fall Tree Care Seminar.

Smokey the Bear Celebrates Arbor Day in Carson City

For the second consecutive year, Smokey the Bear will be celebrating Arbor Day with the Carson City Shade Tree Council. The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. on April 29, 2011 and will be held at Governor's Field (behind Lowe's). The festivities are approximately an hour long. Smokey will arrive at Governor’s Field in a Nevada Division of Forestry fire tender.

Smokey will also have “goodie” bags for the children attending the celebration. Smokey will help the Council and its guests plant a Northern Red Maple selected by the staff of the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department.

The Seminar will be held in the Sierra Room at the Community Center from 8:30 am until 4 pm and is open to all tree care professionals and tree lovers in the community. The Seminar will be broadcast on Carson City’s public access television stations.
