Carson City arrests: Two jailed for suspected burglary and drug offenses

Two were arrested early Monday for suspicion of felony burglary, drug possession and other offenses, according to a Carson City sheriff's office booking report.

Ryan Mitchell Pritchett, 28, of Martinez, Calif., and Vanessa Nicole Martinez, 26, of Oakley, Calif., were taken into custody at 12:55 a.m. near the intersection of Corbett and North Carson Street.

Both face burglary and drug possession charges as well as possession of burglary tools, a gross misdemeanor offense and possession of drug paraphernalia. Martinez was also arrested for a felony outside agency warrant. Pritchett was also arrested for driving without a valid license.

According to the booking report, deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle suspected in a burglary, fraud and property damage case from Sunday.

During the traffic stop, the deputy asked the passenger, Martinez, for identification. The woman stated she didn't have an ID card but provided here name, date of birth and social security number. Dispatch ran the information, which came back with an outstanding extraditable felony warrant with a $50,000 bail for failure to appear on two counts of burglary in San Mateo County, Calif. The officer instructed the woman to step out of the vehicle where she was taken into custody for the felony warrant.

Officers asked if she wanted her personal items still in the vehicle to go with her. She stated she wanted her purse and phone. Deputies searched the personal belongings and located multi-colored plastic tubes, recognized as "tooter" straws (commonly used for inhaling narcotics) as well as folded burnt tin foil, also associated with narcotic use.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle for evidence in the residential burglary from the prior day. Several items located in the back of the vehicle were positively identified as being stolen from the victim, the arrest report states.

During the search officers found more paraphernalia and substances within the paraphernalia. The two were arrested. Bail for Martinez, including the outstanding warrant: $81,137. Bail for Pritchett: $26,329.

In other arrests:
— A 41-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the 3100 block of Highway 50 East for suspicion of possession of burglary tools, a gross misdemeanor offense, and two misdemeanor offenses: obstructing an officer and tampering with a vehicle.

According to arrest report, a deputy observed a man tampering with a vehicle at a closed mechanic business. The report states it appeared as though the subject was attempting to steal something. The officer gave verbal commands for the man to stop but began walking away.

The officer gave him verbal commands to stop and to pull his hands out of his pockets. After more verbal commands the man complied and removed his hands from his pockets but failed to identify himself. He became argumentative and would not provide information about who he was. The officer conducted a pat down search for weapons. The man advised that if he failed to identify himself he was going to be placed under arrest. The man did not identify himself, the report states.

During a search of his person, officers located a player's club card in his pocket with a name. The officer also located two tools on his person that could be used to punch vehicle ignitions or pry windows. One tool was located in his right front pocket and the other in his right pant leg or sock. Bail: $3,264.

— A 35-year-old Gardnerville man, Michael Mitchell, was arrested Sunday for three warrants issued of Douglas County, one being a felony warrant. He was also arrested for suspicion of possession of burglary tools, a gross misdemeanor offense. Bail: $8,060.

— A 19-year-old Reno woman was arrested Sunday, 3:29 a.m. in the 1800 block of North Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, speeding (16-20 over) and driving without a valid driver's license.

According to the arrest report, an officer observed a vehicle accelerate at a high rate of speed at the intersection of West William and North Carson. The officer observed the vehicle pass two vehicles and continued. The officer accelerated to catch up to the sedan and paced it going between 45 mph to 50 mph in a 25 mph zone.

The officer made a traffic stop and contacted the occupants inside. The driver informed the officer she did not have a driver's license. There was a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle. A deputy asked the woman if she would perform standardized field sobriety tests. She agreed and was unable to satisfactorily complete the tests, the report states. She provided a preliminary breath test of .144 and was arrested. At jail she provided evidentiary blood draws. Bail: $1,461.

— A 24-year-old Carson City man, Edward Lee Moser Jr., was arrested Saturday for suspicion of felony violation of parole and probation, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He's being held without bail on the parole and probation violation charge.

— A 20-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Friday for misdemeanor suspicion of possession of marijuana by a person under 21, driving while using a cell phone and possession of drug paraphernalia, a sheriff's booking report states.

According to the arrest report, an officer who was driving an assigned Special Enforcement Team SUV, observed a vehicle traveling east on Little Lane and observed the driver talking on a cell phone. The officer made a traffic stop and spoke with the driver. She admitted to talking to her boyfriend on her cellphone when she passed the officer.

The officer could smell an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. The officer asked the woman if she had marijuana. The woman stated she had a "pipe," the arrest report states. The officer asked the woman if he could search the vehicle. The woman replied "yes," the arrest report states.

The officer conducted a search and located a marijuana pipe in the center console and a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe in the woman's purse. Dispatch advised the woman had received a citation in November 2020 for possession of marijuana. The marijuana was later weighed at 6 grams and booked into evidence along with two pipes. $1,000.
