Nevada Day organizers looking at reversing course of parade
The organizers of the annual Nevada Day celebration are considering changing the course of the parade to move from south to north on Carson Street.
The staff of Nevada Day, Inc. met on Tuesday with Carson CIty officials to go over the planned changes for the parade. The basic outlines for the plan have the parade starting on South Carson Street at 10th Street, continuing north before taking a right turn on William Street, and ending at the intersection with Stewart Street.
The main reason for reversing course is to connect the parade with Nevada Day events planned for Mills Park. Nevada Day Inc. will be partnering with RSVP to stage the carnival at Mills Park, and in addition adding family-friendly events, civil war re-enactors, a car show and other entertainment.
“We are pulling out all the stops for a big family festival atmosphere at Mils Park, rocking it on Telegraph Square and shaking it up at McFadden Plaza. Bigger and better than ever,” said, Dana Lee Fruend, marketing director for Nevada Day.
From the official end of the parade at the intersection of William and Stewart, parade participants can either return back to the staging area vie Stewart Street, or turn left on Robinson Street to participate in additional Nevada Day events at Mills Park and Carson High School.
Another benefit is to ease the staging of the parade, which in years past has clogged the side streets off of North Carson Street and made getting in and out of that area very difficult. Instead, the parade entries can be staged on the multiple lanes of South Carson Street between Stewart and 10th Streets. They can also use the southern part of Stewart Street, as well as some of areas around the Nevada Department of Transportation and Carson Mall.
City officials were optimistic about the route changes, and didn’t anticipate any major problems.
Nevada Day organizers have been seeking feedback from affected parties for the past couple of months and welcome comments from the public before they finalize their plans.
