Stacey Giomi Files for Carson City Supervisor Ward 1
Retired Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi filed candidacy paperwork Monday for the open Carson City Supervisor Ward 1 seat, which is being vacated by Karen Abowd who announced last fall that she would not be running for a third term.
Giomi was a Carson City firefighter for more than 30 years, being named Fire Chief in 2005. During his tenure Giomi oversaw a budget of more than 13 million dollars and supervised more than 75 employees. Giomi retired from the department in 2015.
“I believe I have the experience that Carson City residents deserve in an elected official. Carson City is growing and changing and we are at a crossroad. New businesses and more people moving to our area will bring new opportunities” Giomi said. “We need to take advantage of that, while at the same time ensuring that city actions reflect our community's values, make fiscal sense and take into consideration any impact on our residents.”
Since leaving the fire department Giomi has worked at Nevada Health Centers, Inc. He currently serves as the Director of Facilities and Emergency Preparedness. The statewide nonprofit provides medical and dental health services to uninsured, under-insured, the homeless, and geographically isolated communities throughout Nevada.
Giomi says the board of supervisors will have several big decisions to make over the next few years.
“We need to thoughtfully manage our growth, develop accessible workforce housing, address our deteriorating roads to name just a few. The decisions we make now will have a significant impact on our future. I’ve lived in Carson City since high school. I’ve watched our community grow up. Serving our residents at such a pivotal time would be an honor I will take very seriously.”
