Carson City has been recognized as the number one town in America to open small businesses, according to a survey done by Advisor Smith, which is based on the number of small businesses being opened in a city compared with their population.

According to the survey, the study focused on businesses that employ at least one paid employee, which excludes entities like financial or real estate holding companies.

Nevada's unemployment rate in October fell over the month, down 0.3 of a percentage point from September to a seasonally adjusted 5.5 percent, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
