Nevada Department of Public Safety to hold statewide hiring event in Carson City
The Nevada Department of Public Safety (DPS) is holding a hiring event on Saturday, March 24 for candidates seeking a career in law enforcement and public safety.
Approximately 80 positions are open within the Nevada DPS statewide, serving in the capacity of DPS Officer with the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), Parole and Probation Division, Capitol Police, and civilian positions, such as Public Safety Dispatcher.
The event is being held at the Nevada DPS Northern Academy located at 2101 Snyder Avenue in Carson City from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Applicants are asked to bring the following:
— Government-issued identification card that includes a photo; driver’s license, Military ID or state-issued ID card.
— Resume
— DPS Officer candidates please arrive in workout attire.
— Public Safety Dispatcher candidates must bring a typing certificate; specifications are listed at dps.nv.gov/jobs
— Water and lunch/snacks
This event is designed to move qualified candidates through the first phase of hiring. The event begins with an informational presentation, as well as a question-and-answer session with NHP, Parole and Probation, Dispatch and Human Resources personnel.
Candidates interested in a DPS Officer position will continue on to the Physical Fitness Test (PT). Candidates who qualify in the PT will then move on to the written test portion.
Physical Testing requirements for Applicant/Screening of DPS Officers:
— 11.5-inch vertical jump
— 24 sit-ups in 1 minute or less
— 18 push-ups, no time limit
— 300 meter run in 82 seconds or less
— 1.5 Mile run in 20:20 or less
— Agility run in 23.4 seconds
Those who pass will continue on to the second phase, receiving an interview date with the Department.
Candidates interested in a Public Safety Dispatch position will continue from the informational seminar to the written test portion.
