It's Your City: Deep, rich writing envelopes 'Love Letters' this weekend at Carson City's BAC
In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer talks with local actor Tom Strekal about the upcoming two-person Proscenium Players Inc., performance of "Love Letters' which runs Friday through Sunday, Feb 23-25, at the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City.
"Love Letters" by A. R. Gurney is a touching, imaginative theater piece presented by local veteran actors Strekal as Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Darlene Pearson as Melissa Gardner.
See the It's Your City video interview below or go here.
The performance is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.
Cortney and Tom discuss the art of letter writing, how the characters evolve through the course of the letter writing between the two and how actress Darlene Pearson approached him to play the role of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III. Strekal's wife Liz, who has stage managed over the years, is the director.
Performances are Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $18 for General Admission and $15 for Seniors/Students and $13 for PPI/BAC Members. Tickets may be purchased through www.breweryarts.org, at the BAC office or by calling 775-883-1976. Get your tickets early as this is a limited engagement event and tickets will sell out quickly.
