Midnight deadline tonight to register for BAC's St. Patrick's-themed filmmaking competition
The Brewery Arts Center, Carson TV and Wired Wednesday Digital Arts Club announce a new film competition, the first "St. Paddy's Film Crawl: A Short Filmmaking Competition" with screening and judging March 14. Registration deadline has been extended to midnight, Wednesday, March 4.
Films cannot be less than 1 minute or more than 10 minutes in length. They must utilize one fact about St. Patrick's Day and can be Documentary or Mockumentary in nature. A narrative must be somewhere within the film as well as the business the film team partners with, be it their logo, a mention of the place, a scene shot in the establishment or in the background.
Teams should register now and may begin making their films as soon as registered. Register by emailing Darla Bayer at dbayer@bactv.org, or call 775-830-7939. Informational email will be sent upon registration. $10 registration fee, which you can pay here.
This competition is based on blatant self promotion of the film. An "Audience Choice Award" will be given to the film that accrues the largest number of votes on March 14. Filmmaking teams must register by March 4. Films are due on March 7 and an additional week is allowed for further promotion of the films. Promotion is key. Start immediately. Social media, print, promotional gadgets, any means to get the word out to vote for your film.
The submission "judged" best film will win a meet and greet with director/filmmaker Barbara Allen, Middle Passage Productions, independent filmmaker 2013 Best Documentary Emmy Award for "Colorblind: Rethinking Race," 2011 Emmy Award for DuSable to Obama: Chicago's Black Metropolis and 2008 Honors at Cannes Film Festival.
Filmmakers are encouraged to partner with downtown businesses (bars, restaurants, retailers, museums) who will show their film repeatedly on Saturday, March 14 from 4-10pm. Audience will "crawl" from location to location to view films and voting will be done through Facebook.
Downtown Businesses are encouraged to contact Darla Bayer, dbayer@bactv.org or 830-7939, if they would like to participate in the St. Paddy's Film Crawl, a fun way to promote your business. The business can create their own film team or we will offer the registered teams the list of those businesses interested in participating. Businesses are also encouraged to promote the film made with their establishment.
Participating businesses must have the means to show their fil m makers film and a donation would be greatly appreciated for the grand "Audience Choice" prize. All donating businesses will get recognition.
Films will be shown at downtown businesses as well as the Brewery Arts Center in the MHJ Theatre. All the films will show in rotation from 4pm until 10pm.
This event furthers the Brewery Arts Center's ongoing mission of enriching the quality of life and cultivating arts and culture for all by moving filmmaking into the community, allowing partnerships with individuals and businesses that might not otherwise have the means to create films.
