Carson City Sheriff: Pursuit that ended in fatal crash at airport involved stolen pickup

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong released the following information regarding Thursday night's fatal crash at Carson City Airport following a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen pickup: At 7:48 p.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office received reports of a “hit and run” accident in the area of Brown Street and Edmonds Drive in east Carson City.

It was quickly learned that the suspect vehicle was a yellow Ford 150 pickup. The suspect vehicle was located by sheriff’s deputies at a gas station on College Parkway near Research Way. As officers approached at approximately 7:54 p.m. the suspect vehicle rammed the police SUV and fled eastbound on College Parkway at high speeds.

After passing through College Parkway and Airport Road, the suspect vehicle lost control and crashed onto the Carson Airport property. The driver, described as a Hispanic adult male, was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled and killed.

The immediate investigation has disclosed that the Ford F150 was reported stolen at approximately 4 p.m. this date from the area of the reported “hit and run” that preceded this incident. No officers were injured in this incident.

At the request of the Carson City Sheriff, following standard procedure, the Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating the details of the fatal accident. The Department of Public Safety Investigation Division has been requested to investigate the overall incident.
